This position is required to work on-site 5 days a week.What we do:The Battery Management Systems (BMS) Manager focuses on managing engineers involved in the architecting, design & development of Battery Management System hardware and high voltage (BMS HW and HV) electrical interface systems at the Module level and Pack level from concept to completion for our Energy Storage Systems (ESS). This position is responsible for managing HW resources. The BMS Manager will work with the SW team to get the resources needed for BMS development. BMS manager delivers detailed HW & SW design, design analysis, prototype verification, and production support for testers and product manufacturability. The role works closely with other Algo /Cell Engineers in the Battery team and other cross-functional team members to develop HW/ SW requirements and to support integration testing at the Powertrain, ESS system, or Cell module level.What you can do:Manage HW engineers responsible for the overall architecture and validation of high voltage BMS systems at module and system levels, including power distribution unit (PDU) control interfacesResponsible for functional safety and redundancy architecture of HV BMSResponsible for interface definition development between peer sub-systemsDevelop architectures for HV BMS for new and innovative ESS solutionsEnsure requirement traceability between BMS and other higher and lower-level systems as required by aviation certification requirementsResponsible for developing and maintaining design processes within the BMS teamReview team deliverables and is responsible for timely and quality delivery of designs and documents for ESS/ Aircraft integrationResponsible for resolving development issues, directing resources, and driving them through RCCA processesPartner with PMO organization to implement build planUp to 10% of domestic and international travelOther duties as assignedWhat you can contribute:Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering required; Master’s or PhD degree preferredMinimum of ten (10) years of demonstrated experience in BMS hardware, PDU for large battery pack development, and successfully ramping up in production (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this role)Experience in HV battery management system and HW & SW developmentExperience in designing various communication interfaces like CAN, Iso SPI, Ethernet, and their aviation-specific variantsExperience in directing engineers to conduct and document tolerance analysis, part stress analysis, safety hazard analysis, FMEA, and FTA, functional safety, and software verificationProficiency in architecting and designing analog & mixed signal high voltage systems using the latest cell monitors and master BMS microcontrollers for HW and SWProficiency in HW simulation tools like PSpice and modeling tools like MATLAB, SIMULINKProficiency in lithium-based cell chemistries, their protection requirements, and gauging challengesKnowledge of aviation standards for design, testing, and certification like DO254, DO178C, and DO160; System design standards like ARP 7454 and APR4761Knowledge of battery estimation Algorithm implementation in SW for BMS applicationsProficiency in HV circuit design, protection, and safety aspects as applicable to HV batteriesKnowledge of HV DC/DC, Contactors, and fuses selection for HV ESS applications with an understanding of HV safety and protection methodsAbility to develop processes to design HW & SW to meet aerospace requirementsExcellent skills required in technical communication and reliance on data for issue resolution and decision-makingExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProactive delivery of communication and follow-upExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailMust have the ability to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraintsProficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically for data analysis, document creation, and reportingYou may also be able to contribute:Battery design for aviation applications preferred Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
