Job Summary: The Dirty Jobs Director is responsible for leading and managing the trade skills program, which includes teaching Welding, Metalworking, and Home Repairs Merit Badges. This role involves both hands-on instruction and the management of program resources and safety protocols.
Season Dates:
- Directors' Week: 6/8/25-6/14/25
- Staff Development Week: 6/15/25-6/21/25
- Week 1: 6/22/25-6/28/25
- Week 2: 6/29/25-7/5/25
- Week 3: 7/6/25-7/12/25
- Week 4: 7/13/25-7/19/25
- Week 5: 7/20/25-7/26/25
- Week 6: 7/27/25-8/2/25 (Dependent program finalization)
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan, and implement a comprehensive trade skills curriculum, covering Welding, Metalworking, and Home Repairs Merit Badges.
- Provide hands-on instruction to scouts, ensuring they understand the fundamentals of each trade, safety procedures, and practical applications.
- Supervise and train any assistant instructors or volunteers involved in the trade skills program.
- Maintain and manage all tools, equipment, and materials required for the program, ensuring everything is in safe working order.
- Ensure compliance with all Scouting America guidelines and safety standards related to trade skills activities.
- Coordinate with the Camp Director and other program areas to schedule and integrate trade skills activities into the overall camp experience.
- Create a positive and educational environment that fosters learning and skill development.
- Manage the trade skills program budget, including purchasing supplies and tools as needed.
- Document and track scout progress and achievement in merit badge requirements.
- Support overall operations of Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley and the Scouting America, Orange County Council.
- Submit an end of summer report

- This job requires the use of hands to handle, control or feel objects or tools.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move moderate to heavy objects, which requires frequent and proper bending.
- The employee must frequently be on their feet walking and hiking for distances up to 4 miles at a time.
- Employees must be able to lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds unassisted.
- This position requires the employee to work outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions as well as dust, pollen, plant life, insects, and wildlife.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Demonstrated expertise in Welding, Metalworking, and Home Repairs. Professional experience in these or related fields preferred
- Experience in teaching or training, particularly with youth, is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Scouting America program and merit badge requirements is a plus.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification prior to the start of camp.
- Commitment to the principles of Scouting and youth development.
- Available to work all summer
- Ability to live on site during the summer season working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as program scheduling requires.
- Have or be willing to obtain membership in Scouting America
- Have or be willing to obtain Live Scan background check.
- All camp staff must have a completed annual physical done by a medical provider prior to the start of the summer camp season
- Summer camp experience preferred
