This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full Time Senior Surveyor for our Columbus, OH office. Be involved in projects with our Oil and Gas Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
Takes part in providing survey support on projects to ensure construction compliance with plans, photogrammetric work, measurements, boundaries, calculations, and codified requirements for public and private sector client projects. Tasks may include performing land surveys on various assigned construction projects of basic to moderate scale and/or complexity, which may include visually mapping/drafting legal boundaries and the potential placement of structures, utilities, and installations. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, uniformity, thoroughness, and legal compliance for survey documents.

Your Impact
- Act as the on-site representative for Golder / WSP
- Conduct site survey each day to assess jobsite hazards and appropriate PPE required.
- Perform a Job Hazard Analysis Meeting every morning with field crew.
- Establish onsite control.
- Locate and probe existing company gas lines.
- Conduct topographical survey gathering data on all major terrain features.
- Communicate with engineer, project manager, and operations on a daily basis.
- Take field notes of field data gathered.
- Send nightly email to all stakeholders outlining tasks completed and any issues.
- Ensure all work is performed per design and company specifications through observations after completion of work.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and proper procedures and quality control are followed.
- Position may interface with landowners and refer any landowner questions, concerns or issues to the appropriate client representative.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Work collaboratively with other professionals, engineers, scientists, project control, and technicians on assigned survey tasks.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, studies and surveys, and construction.
- Exhibit basic knowledge of current land surveyor practices and remain current in the latest survey knowledge, techniques, and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant post education experience in discipline with prior surveying experience with easements, rights of way, plats, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, property descriptions, and GPS surveys.
- Valid state driver's license.
- Experience with both public and private sector work (e.g. state, city, county, utility districts, and private land development)
- Highly familiar with land survey principles, practices, process, methods and techniques.
- Good interpersonal, documentation, and computer skills (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Fundamental understanding of pipeline design surveys, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
- Strong experience with Trimble Survey Gear (R10-R12 GNSS Receivers)
- Experience with line locating with electronic line locator.
- Ability to record information in a legible and accurate manner. (Field Notes)
- Professional oral and written communication skills.
- Sound self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Analytical mindset to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from calculations, data collation, and survey results to arrive at the most effective and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Travel is required, up to 90%, depending on project-specific requirements.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
- This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
