Jefferson Health and Thomas Jefferson University are seeking an experienced academic leader to head the Division of Palliative Care within the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. This role will involve creating and executing a visionary strategy for palliative care across Jefferson Health's extensive network.

Position Overview

Title: Division Director, Palliative Care
Location: Thomas Jefferson University Hospital & Methodist Hospital, Philadelphia, PA
Reporting To: Chair of Family and Community Medicine and Enterprise Chief of Primary Care

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Division of Palliative Care, developing high-value palliative care services across Jefferson Health's regions, and fostering excellence in clinical care, education, and research. This includes hospital and skilled nursing facility consultations, as well as non-oncologic ambulatory, telehealth, home-based, and value-based palliative care services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Leadership: Lead clinical palliative care services at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Methodist Hospital, including inpatient and community-based care.
  • Educational Oversight: Supervise the palliative care fellowship program and educational initiatives for medical students, residents, and other healthcare learners.
  • Research and Funding: Drive extramural funding through research, programmatic grants, and philanthropy.
  • Program Development: Innovate and establish clinical, operational, and quality standards in collaboration with regional palliative care leaders.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across departments and the health system to advance palliative care research, education, and practice.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO with Board Certification in Palliative Care
  • 5+ years (preferably 10+) of experience in leadership roles within clinical, educational, or research programs
  • Proven management and mentorship skills, with experience in building and leading interprofessional teams
  • Strong ability to navigate and work effectively within a matrixed environment
  • In-depth understanding of palliative care models, including program design, business modeling, productivity, quality, experience, and equity
  • Commitment to developing new programs or expanding existing ones
  • Dedication to promoting health equity and interprofessional team structures
