Teledyne Cable Solutions is comprised of Storm Cable and VariSystems, an integrated alliance supplying engineered solutions to challenging cable situations. TCS provides application-specific, multi-core cable, and ruggedized assemblies for a variety of industries.

Job Summary:

The Buyer/Planner coordinates activities involved with the planning and procuring of goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, and supplies in a high mix assembly manufacturing group. Obtains materials using engineering and production schedules to maintain inventory at planned levels. Resolves discrepancies. Creates and maintains bills of material and specifications for new contract orders. Responsible for managing assigned product lines, commodities, and supplier bases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Reviews requisitions, including basic understanding of factors driving requisitions such as MRP, sales orders, bid requests and re-order points and min/max levels.
  • Updates material availability information to determine order release dates. Sets order schedule to complete as close to customer wanted date as possible.
  • Enters and or modifies shop orders as needed for qty controlled "stock" parts.
  • Request, evaluate and negotiate supplier quotes and contracts.
  • Process and execute purchase orders.
  • Assess supplier performance for contracts and purchase orders and develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate.
  • Expedite orders as required.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with suppliers.
  • Utilizes drawings, manufacturing work instructions, process sheets, and other information to determine scheduling methods which best achieve throughput goals and objectives.
  • Works with Engineering to recommend changes to product flow and or process sheets to enhance manufacturability and schedule accuracy.
  • Communicates with sales, buyer planners, and management as needed to facilitate manufacturing in accordance with production schedule.
  • Communicates with kitting, purchasing, and manufacturing to ensure all products are running in accordance with the schedule.
  • Reviews and adjusts schedule to accommodate expedite requests when accepted.
  • Communicates status of late or scheduled late orders to buyer planners and production, recommending over-time or alternate resource allocations to complete products on-time.
  • Supports the department with continuous improvement goals and cross-training efforts.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in a related field and a minimum of 5 years directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of a professional certificate program, such as university extended studies, APICS, AME, or ISM certification is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience using ERP systems and MS Office applications.
  • Basic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaisen
  • Proven negotiation and cost savings experience
  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.
