What You'll Do

As an embedded UX writer for the External systems integrations (ESI) team, the contractor is expected to
  • Advocate for customers' needs throughout the customer journey and with a particular focus on content design.
  • Act as a content strategist by identifying gaps in the content flow in the customer experience
  • Collaborate with UX research and UX design on the overall customer flow to understand the content needs of the customer. UX writer will ensure that the customer experience follows a logical flow and that the UI (user interaction) copy helps customers clearly and quickly understand what to do, when to do it, and what to expect as a result.
    • UX design - UX writer will present the UI copy as part of ongoing reviews, whether that's within the design teams' regular meetings or UX leadership/business stakeholder check-ins.
    • UX research - UX writer will connect regularly with UXR to pinpoint areas of the user experience that should be included in ongoing testing. UX writer may conduct qualitative content testing on their own, but under the guidance of the UX research team.
  • Craft UI for high-priority projects, including those with complicated flows and/or projects with implications for multiple domains. UX writer will meet regularly with their UX charter lead (Jatin) to align on UX writing project priorities.
  • As part of crafting UI copy, UX writer
    • Follows UX writing guidelines, including industry best practices, rules for the Company parent brand, and Company guidelines contained in the design system
      • Keeps track of project metrics post-launch
    • Maintains the Company parent brand and tone. Our overall brand is welcoming, simple, optimistic, authentic, inventive. To date, we don't have any distinct Company voice traits, although that work was started as part of the design language efforts that the design team completed in Q3/Q4 2023. Voice and tone significantly impacts customers' brand perception, so we strive to maintain consistency.
    • Considers accessibility and globalization. UX writers do not, however, handle localization. We may collaborate with the Company localization team on specific questions.
    • Works with legal to ensure UI copy meets compliance requirements.
  • UI copy includes
    • information architecture - how and when UI copy is introduced to users within the overall flow
      • transactional emails
    • content hierarchy - how UI copy is organized on a page for most important information first to least important included last
    • page headlines and subheads
    • buttons, labels, alerts, help text
    • modals, error messages
  • Hold office hours for ESI non-priority projects
    • For example: Company Analytics
  • Raises the bar on UX writing across the ESI charter
    • Offer internal charter team training on UX writing fundamentals for designers and engineers
  • Attends regular UX design (charter team), UX writing, and product team meetings

Compensation and Benefits

Slalom is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For this position, the hourly pay range is up to $90/hr. Actual compensation will depend upon an individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The hourly pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
