POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Engineer V position will support large-scale mining environmental remediation and construction projects in the western US as senior technical lead. As Engineer V, you will work with our high performing HGL Team and be responsible for supporting HGL's portfolio of environmental remediation projects for various clients including USEPA and Montana Department of Environmental Quality. Projects may include remedial design support, oversight of remedial action (RA), remediation, demolition, and mine-waste cleanup projects.
HGL is focusing its search in Billings, MT and will also consider remote candidates in the western US. Positions where HGL offices are located (Billings, Denver, Kansas City, and Phoenix) will be hybrid positions with some office attendance and travel required. All other locations will be fully remote with travel required.

Responsibilities/Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The person hired for this role will be responsible for:
- Management of technical aspects of CERCLA RI/FS, RD/RA, operations and maintenance (O&M), and/or long-term monitoring (LTM) or RCRA equivalent phases of environmental restoration and large-scale mining reclamation projects.
- Developing engineering studies, plans, designs, and specifications for the remediation of environmental contamination.
- Review of specifications, drawings, work plans, and ongoing construction activities to assure compliance.
- Drafting project submittals.
- Potentially Responsible Party (PRP) oversight.
- Directing, managing, and leading technical teams to meet project objectives in-line with corporate and customer quality expectations.
- Communicating effectively with Program and Project Managers, clients, regulators, technical team members, and company management.
- Effectively manage project risks and develop mitigation approaches and strategies.
- Supporting business development efforts, including leading or supporting proposal efforts.
Required Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- Minimum 15 years of experience executing and managing remediation/construction projects under CERCLA and RCRA, including oversight of project teams, management of budget, schedule, safety, quality, technical performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering field such as: Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field. (MA/MS in a related field may decrease the years of experience required).
- Excellent time management and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and keep organized to ensure timely and accurate work.
- Ability to build consensus among leadership, internal, and external stakeholders through effective interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT - Preferred, not required
- PE registration.
- Experience working with EPA on mining related projects and/or Montana DEQ.
- Experience at a federal government remediation, mine-waste cleanup, or construction sites.
- MS degree in engineering field related to Mining Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
- Experience with remedial technologies and approaches.
