What You Will Do

The Operational Safety and Compliance Programs group (PSS-2) is seeking a highly motivated Operations Support Specialist to assist in classified data management and analytics. The selected Operations Support Specialist will support PSS-2's mission to reduce operational and programmatic risk across the Weapons Production missions through the assurance of proper processing, storage, control, disposition, and distribution of special nuclear materials. While working in a team environment, the successful candidate must also be able to work independently with minimal supervision, establish and balance priorities, and be able to handle sensitive matters with tact and discretion.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:

Under the supervision and technical guidance from senior staff and/or management, the selected Operations Support Specialist will participate in the shipping and receipt of nuclear materials, nuclear material inventory analysis, data management and analytics, and reporting and forecasting to meet Laboratory and Department of Energy (DOE) customer needs. The selected candidate will develop reports and presentations for management, program owners and stakeholders. In conjunction with data analysis, the selected candidate may identify opportunities for improvement and offer new methodologies for nuclear materials management activities. The selected candidate will become well versed in DOE Order 410.2 Management of Nuclear Materials compliance along with additional governing policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of data analysis - including planning, trending and reporting.
  • Knowledge of database queries, forms, and reports.
  • Ability to follow and provide improvements in procedures, policies, and processes
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills as demonstrated by presentations and professional correspondences.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in moderate complexity data analysis - including planning, trending and reporting.
  • Demonstrated entry-level programming skills and querying capability - including development of technical solutions and approaches.
  • Ability to work with team-members, other organizations, and customers to solve problems.
  • Ability to review, understand, and execute an end-to-end work processes.
  • Advanced customer service experience rooted in strong written and verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Proven proficiency managing sensitive or classified data.

Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Entry-level knowledge of nuclear materials management (e.g., material storage, control, shipping, or disposition) in accordance with DOE Order 410.2 Management of Nuclear Materials.
  • Experience in programming relational and/or SQL Server databases.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 2 years.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
