Communications & Marketing Director

Position Overview:
The New School is seeking a dynamic and creative Communications & Marketing Director to lead and manage our marketing and communications efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the school's website, managing social media channels, photographing daily classroom activities and events, crafting news releases, managing emergency communications, and developing and implementing comprehensive marketing initiatives. This role requires proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, social media platforms, photography, video production and editing. The Communications & Marketing Director will play a crucial role in promoting the school's brand and fostering strong connections with our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Website Maintenance: Manage and update the school's website to ensure it reflects the latest information, events, and news. Work closely with the IT team to troubleshoot any technical issues and optimize the user experience.
- Social Media Management: Develop and execute a social media strategy to enhance the school's online presence. Create, schedule, and post engaging content across various platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- Oversee the creation, editing, and distribution of the monthly newsletter, ensuring it effectively communicates key updates, engages the audience, and aligns with brand messaging.
- Photography: Capture high-quality photos using an SLR camera of daily classroom activities, school events, and other significant moments to be used across digital and print media. Managing the storage and sharing of all photos through platforms like Vidigami.
- Video Production and Editing: Create video content that highlights the school's activities, programs, and events. Edit videos for use on the website, social media, and in other marketing materials.
- News Releases: Write and distribute press releases to local and national media outlets to promote school events, achievements, and initiatives.
-Managing emergency communications like school closure, delayed openings, etc.
- Marketing Strategy Development: Collaborate with the Director of Advancement to create and implement a comprehensive marketing plan that aligns with the school's mission and goals.
- Digital Marketing Deployment: The execution of digital advertising strategies, including search engine optimization (SEO) and creating targeted campaigns on platforms such as Facebook and Google. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for launching and monitoring marketing initiatives, analyzing tracking data to optimize campaign performance and drive engagement.
- Brand Management: Ensure consistency in the school's messaging and visual identity across all communications and marketing materials.
- Event Support: Provide communications and marketing support for school events, including but not limited to open houses, fundraisers, and community outreach activities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related role. Experience in an educational setting is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, social media platforms, digital photography, video production and editing software, Vidigami, Bright Arrow, and other communication outlets. Experience with AI and Blackbaud preferred.
- Communication Skills: Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Creativity: Ability to generate innovative ideas for promoting the school's programs and events.
- Organizational Skills: Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
