Salisbury - W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center The W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center is a 484-bed medical center located in Salisbury, North Carolina. The medical center supports community-based outpatient clinics in nearby Charlotte and Winston-Salem, NC. Winston-Salem is the compensation and pension (C&P) clinic of jurisdiction for the State of North Carolina, facilitating the rating of veterans for compensation and pension purposes. Inpatient services are provided for acute medicine, cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, physical rehabilitation, subacute and extended care, neuropsychiatry services, psychiatric intensive care, and geropsychiatry. Primary and specialized outpatient services are provided at the medical center and outpatient clinics. The medical center is affiliated with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, with a focus on resident involvement in primary care, dermatology, rehabilitation, ophthalmology, and psychiatry. Salisbury is recognized as one of the largest employers in Rowan County and enjoys the recognition and respect of the community through an active outreach program. Requirements (duties include but are not limited to) The Pulmonologist, at the level specified, with a minimum of 8-hour notice by the VA of specific tours required, to perform Pulmonary services, to include providing Intensive Care/Critical Care services and inpatient/outpatient services for the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Salisbury VA Medical Center (Salisbury VAMC). Performs procedures such as: thoracentesis, central line placement, arterial line placements, bronchoscopies, bedside bronchoscopies, intubation procedures, patient rounding, bedside echo, PFT interpretations. Additional skill sets such as sleep study interpretations and EBUS procedures may be supported. Provides Inpatient Consultation. Pulmonologist(s) shall be available for consultative care 24/7 for all inpatient care. All consultations requested before 4:30 pm shall be resolved on the same calendar day, except for weekends. The contract physician(s) shall be reachable by pager or other telecommunication device(s), at the request of a referring physician, to discuss a patient's case to ensure the patient is seen in a timely fashion and to expedite any required care. Provides on-call services. At least eight (8) weekdays a month and one (1) weekend a month. Shall provide review of consults and triaging daily. Medications: Contractor physician(s) shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients. Discharge education: Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients. Contractor physician(s) shall provide post-procedure evaluation, follow-up and clinical consultation regarding complications of procedures. Clinical Notes & Encounters: All notes and encounters must be completed with two calendar days of the encounter. Assist in mobilization of Salisbury VAMC contingency plans to accommodate emergency situations should they arise. Participate in mandatory VA Training Requirements, including Information Security, Privacy Training, and CPRS Training. Adhere to all VHA safety policies and comply with service-specific Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals or equivalent. Contract physician(s) shall be responsible for signing in and out when in attendance. Time sheets will be used by the COR to confirm hours/day and services provided against the contractor's invoices. Maintain appropriate communication and relationship with other members of the team. Contractor physician(s) shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics as documented by physical presence in the clinic at the scheduled start time. The physician(s) shall complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications and outcome of examinations. The physician(s) shall be available to perform peer reviews. Shall attend staff meetings as required by the VAMC Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee. Must attend: Operative and Invasive Committee and Surgical Morbidity & Mortality Committee. Contractor to communicate with COR on this requirement and report any conflicts that may interfere with compliance with this requirement. Pulmonologist(s) shall follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Pulmonologist(s) shall make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care. All events related to patient injury, medication errors, and other breeches of patient safety shall be reported to the COR VA Safety Policy. As soon as practicable (but within 24 hours) Contractors shall notify COR of incident and submit to the COR the Patient Safety Report, following up with COR as required or requested. Qualifications Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited graduate school of Medicine.
