Overview

Excellent opportunity to join a team-oriented group of APPs and Neurosurgeons caring for neurosurgical patients at a Level 2 Trauma Center located in beautiful Bloomington, IL. Practice consists of 3 primary neurosurgeons and 2 current APPs with plans to expand to 4 neurosurgeons and 4 APP team to support a full neurosurgical inpatient/outpatient coverage model. Our neurosurgical program is committed to educating, training, and mentoring APPs. 


Position Details:

  1. Monday through Friday 8-1700
    • Flexible weekend rotation (2 shifts every 5 weeks)
  2. Inpatient morning rounding and ambulatory clinic to follow rounding

The APP (Advanced Practice Provider) performs the following tasks:

      • Obtain a patient history
      • Perform a physical examination
      • Conduct a comprehensive assessment
      • Order, conduct and interpret diagnostic tests
      • Formulate a diagnostic impression
      • Develop and implement a treatment plan
      • Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
      • Prescribe pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies
      • Facilitate appropriate consultations and referrals
      • Provide counseling and education to meet patient needs
      • Coordinate hospital discharge, outpatient appointments and testing
      • Serve as a first assist in surgery as needed, (will provide training and education)

 

  1. Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives
  2. Comply with all required hospital compliance policies involving
    • Quality care and cost savings
    • Timely and up-to-date documentation of medical records

Practice Model:

  1. 3 primary neurosurgeons + 5 rotating neurosurgeon coverage
  2. MD and APP service with plans for University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria Neurosurgery residency expansion
  3. Effective communication between MD, APP, and Neurosurgery Residency service (University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria)is key to fostering a supportive environment and optimizing patient outcomes. 
  4. Elective volume; 80:20 spine

Qualifications

Requirements Qualifications: 

  1. Master’s degree or higher in nursing or physician assistant studies. Current APRN or PA national certification, and Illinois licensure as a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Physician Assistant 
  2. BLS, ACLS, ENLS certification (can help acquire)
  3. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. At least one year of acute care experience in neurosurgery or related field
