Strategic Sourcing Buyer/Planner

This is an onsite position Monday to Friday - Day Shift

JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The objective of the Buyer/Planner is to ensure the appropriate material is available to the assembly cells in order to attain schedule, quality, cost and inventory turns objectives. The Buyer/Planner is responsible to performing root cause analysis and problem solving of issues impacting the attainment of these objectives. The Buyer/Planner is responsible for the execution and follow up of purchase orders and work orders to support their assigned value stream(s).

This position also works with the R&D department to source new components in support of new product development. This includes both sourcing of prototype hardware as well as production hardware. The sourcing activity must meet the corporate objectives of on time delivery, quality and total cost.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Establish and maintain the Item Master planning parameters that affect MRP. Ensure data integrity in E1, including inventory accuracy. This includes ensuring standard costs are maintained to reduce variances.

React to MRP planning messages in respect to both work orders and purchase orders. This includes issuing, expediting and closing orders as required to support business needs.

Process special orders to meet customer expectations

Identifies and implements cost reduction projects to meet annual company objectives. Monitors PPV and addresses issues in a timely manner.

Prepares Request for Quote packages for suppliers. Coordinates with suppliers and internal customers to select the best option.

Acts as BUSA business point of contact and confers with suppliers to obtain product and service information. Develops strong relationships with key suppliers. Ensures the Approved Supplier List is up-to-date.

Use supplier qualification tools to monitor and maintain the highest performing supplier base available

Works with Supplier Quality to ensure effective and timely resolution of quality issues.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Communicate in a clear and concise manner issues or concerned that may affect the overall plans and agendas for the plant

Follows standard work developed for the department. Maintains electronic supplier files.

Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

Gather and analyze information using Lean Thinking and develop/execute solutions.

Develop project plans and coordinate projects.

Write clearly and informatively and present numerical data effectively. Prepare reports as requested by management.

Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is generally performed while sitting or standing and in an office environment. Requires some walking to various departments in the plant. Light physical work in support of material movement and Lean activities on occasion.

Both Domestic and International travel is required to meet business demands.

QUALIFICATIONS\ABILITIES:

Work experience in a machine shop environment. Automotive or similar industry is preferred Firearm industry is a Plus.

Strong sense of urgency to complete daily goals and task at a fast pace while maintaining quality standards

Demonstrate knowledge and successful application of purchasing procedures in a fast paced and high demand environment.

Ability to manage and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting daily function requirements.

Proven negotiation, problem solving skills and lean manufacturing tools.

Awareness of ATF regulations as they relate to manufacturing is a plus

Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.

Knowledge and experience with ISO 9000 based quality systems.

Proficient at Microsoft Office applications. Ability to utilize Excel data analysis tools. Working knowledge of ERP systems. JD Edwards E1 preferred.

EXPERIENCE\EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year College or university with 5-year experience is preferred.

Longer experience could be acceptable in lieu of Bachelor
