Basic Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 15 years of demonstrated leadership; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 13 years of demonstrated leadership.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Strategy and Business Development Director for our Progeny Systems Business Area within the Maritime and Strategic Systems Line of Business. This portfolio includes torpedo electronics, sonar, combat systems, cybersecurity, electronic warfare, and mission readiness/mission planning systems primarily serving the US Navy and DoD prime contractors. The position reports to the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the Maritime and Strategic Systems Line of Business within GDMS and provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's most critical national defense priorities. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Directs business development activities for the Progeny systems portfolio. Key business partner with the Business Area Vice President for strategy and growth
  • Maintains key business development contacts with current and potential customers
  • Evaluates and manages new business opportunities, initiatives, partnerships, alliances and/or joint ventures
  • Oversees market analysis, monitors competitive activity, and identifies customer needs
  • Mentors and coaches capture managers working opportunities within the portfolio; may serve as capture manager for assigned opportunities
  • Defines vision, strategies, and action plans for the business area and any assigned business development opportunities
  • Assists in the formulation of advertising campaigns and approves publicity releases and promotional activities
  • Advises higher management on status or action required in connection with existing and potential business development opportunities
  • Develops and administers schedules and performance requirements; responsible for overhead and new business fund budgets
  • Provides leadership in the planning, designing, due diligence, and implementing of strategic business objectives
  • Develops strategic plans by identifying internal and external strategic issues that could affect growth and profitability
  • Scans environment for business opportunities, maintains surveillance over market
  • Develops and monitors profitability, productivity and growth targets
  • Drives analysis of market data to identify trends/opportunities and develop strategic direction from market information
  • Directs the development of short- and long-range objectives and recommends goals to higher management. Drives business area long range strategic plan and annual strategic planning process
  • Has overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, managing expense priorities, and recommending and implementing changes to methods
  • Responsible for managing people, including performance evaluations and pay increase recommendations, as well as development and succession planning for the organization
  • Responsible for hire/fire decisions

  • Demonstrates deep and broad experience in having defined and executed successful strategies to grow business; possesses strong business acumen to advise Business Area VP as growth partner
  • Able to articulate examples of having identified, pursued and won large capture efforts in areas related to Progeny Systems market. Able to work well within the Progeny Systems organization and culture which is grounded in innovation, efficiency and agile responsiveness to customer needs
  • Possesses broad market awareness, to include budgets, customer priorities, mission gaps, market dynamics, and competitive landscape
  • Maintains tremendous knowledge of government contracting and acquisition practices
  • Able to thrive in a highly interactive team environment
  • Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal, communication, collaboration and leadership skills
  • Recognized ability to build relationships with senior level customers and internal counterparts
  • Basic understanding of international business and export processes
  • Works well under pressure with the ability to simultaneously deliver on multiple tasks and/or priorities.
  • Demonstrates ability to collaborate with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives; results assessed from a relatively long-term perspective
  • Expected to make final decisions in conjunction with the Executive Team on business, operational or programmatic matters and leads effective achievement of objectives
  • Participates in company development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people
  • Ensures budgets and schedules meet company requirements
  • Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company and the market
  • Regularly interacts with executives and major customers
  • Conducts business and technical briefings for senior and top management and for external representatives
  • Interactions frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers, partners or management or attempting to influence senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization
  • Exerts considerable influence on the overall objectives and long-range goals of the organization
  • Performance metrics visible at the GDMS and line of business level
  • Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional, division, or company operations

Position can be remote, hybrid, or located in DC, VA, or MA.

Target salary range: USD $251,145.00/Yr. - USD $271,747.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
