JOB OVERVIEW:

The Procurement Specialist will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, equipment, and services essential for Unit's drilling operations. This role requires strong knowledge of the oil and gas industry, specifically in drilling equipment, materials, and services. The Procurement Specialist will ensure timely delivery, cost-effectiveness, and quality compliance of goods and services, while maintaining strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Source and purchase drilling materials, equipment, spare parts, and consumables.
  • Procure third-party services such as logistics support, safety equipment, and camp services.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to secure favorable terms, prices, and delivery schedules.
  • Ensure procurement practices comply with company policies, standards, and local regulations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and establish relationships with reliable suppliers and contractors.
  • Regularly assess vendor performance based on quality, delivery times, cost, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain an approved vendor list and ensure ongoing compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Monitor inventory levels of critical materials and spare parts to prevent stockouts and delays in operations.
  • Work with the operations and logistics teams to manage the storage, distribution, and transportation of materials to drilling sites.
  • Implement and maintain an efficient inventory control system to track procurement activity and usage.
  • Work with the finance and operations teams to set and adhere to procurement budgets.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and negotiate volume discounts or other favorable terms with suppliers.
  • Prepare, review, and manage procurement contracts with suppliers and service providers.
  • Ensure all contracts are in line with company policies, risk management strategies, and legal requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., operations, maintenance, HSE, and finance teams) to ensure seamless supply chain processes.
  • Ensure timely and efficient delivery of equipment and materials to support ongoing drilling operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of all procurement transactions, including purchase orders, contracts, delivery schedules, and invoices.
  • Prepare regular procurement reports, including status updates on ongoing orders, cost analysis, and procurement performance metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards for auditing and regulatory purposes.
  • Identify potential supply chain risks, such as supplier delays, material shortages, or price fluctuations.
  • Develop contingency plans to mitigate procurement risks and ensure continuity of operations.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong understanding of drilling operations, materials, and equipment requirements.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, supply chain management, and inventory control.
  • Familiarity with drilling equipment, materials, and safety standards.
  • Proficient in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Intermediate level of computer competency - specifically MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel to drilling sites and suppliers as required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Maintains data integrity in databased systems, including dates, prices, quantities, item descriptions, etc. Prior experience with Open Invoice a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Proactive attitude with the ability to anticipate and resolve issues before they impact operations.
  • Place and maintain orders and follows those through to completion, expediting and rescheduling as required to support your internal customers' needs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certifications in procurement (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) is a plus.
EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement, ideally within the oil & gas or drilling industry.

TRAVEL PERCENTAGE: As needed to rig locations and vendors, Estimated 25%. Company vehicle provided for rig and vendor travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Minimal Physical Labor: Most of the work is office-based and requires typical office tasks, such as sitting, typing, and making phone calls. However, on-site visits may involve walking long distances, climbing ladders, or navigating difficult terrain at drilling locations or warehouses.
  • Traveling: Travel to supplier locations, warehouses, or onshore drilling sites may require flights, long drives, depending on the rig's locations. Travel can involve irregular hours and potentially working in time zones different from the home office.
  • Field Equipment and PPE Requirements: When visiting field sites or drilling rigs, the Procurement Specialist will be expected to follow strict safety protocols, which may include wearing hardhat, gloves, steel-toe boots, FRC clothing, and other PPE to ensure safety in hazardous environments.

LOCATION:

In-person, office and/or warehouse and yard environment working Monday through Friday with occasional weekends. Due to the nature of the oil and gas industry, extended hours or occasional weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines or deal with urgent procurement issues.
