Job Description
AECOM has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Scientist, Geologist, or Engineer to join our Remediation team in our Minneapolis office. You will work with a diverse team of technical leaders across a broad range of practice areas delivering remediation consulting services to our key clients.
Candidates should have a B.S. in the geological, hydrogeological, or environmental sciences, or engineering, as well as experience in the environmental industry. This position also requires excellent written and spoken communication skills, organizational and time management skills, flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn new skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the project team and be able to work independently.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Field activities consisting of air, soil vapor, soil, groundwater and sediment sample collection, geological logging and interpretation.
- Task or project management and lead teams for field activities consisting of air, soil vapor, soil, groundwater and sediment sample collection, geological logging and interpretation.
- Assist with gathering and analyzing geological and hydrogeological data in both the field and office settings.
- Assist in preparation of written reports, work plans, and technical memorandums and analysis of data and development of supported conclusions.
- Assist in preparation and implementation of work plans, cost estimates, data compilation/analysis, and report preparation (text, tables, figures, and calculations).
- Perform independent hands-on fieldwork, oversee contractors (laboratory, drillers, surveyors), and other field personnel, and interact with clients/client representatives.
- Utilize basic scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
- Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Health and safety planning and hazard recognition.
- Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- B.S. in the geological, hydrogeological, or environmental sciences, or engineering or any related field and at least 2 years of experience in environmental remediation industry.
- This role is subject to a Background, Drug and MVR check.
- Requires enrollment in the medical monitoring program requiring initial and annual physicals.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4 years of experience environmental remediation industry (private or public).
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
- Experience working on Minnesota Department of Transportation and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency led projects
- MDH Asbestos Certification (Inspector or Supervisor)
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable meeting with clients, colleagues and sub-contractors alike.
- Flexible with working hours and locations, frequent travel within 1 – 2 hour drive of Minneapolis office, and occasionally further.
- Willingness and ability to learn and rapidly master new tasks.
- Strong research and report writing (including web-based research).
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Strong quality and time management.
- Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative.
- Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work.
