SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under the supervision of the executive director of marketing and community relations, this position is responsible for managing the district's internal and external digital and print communications, including the district website and social media platforms; maintaining a continuous flow of information to the community and news media; providing answers to public inquiries and participating in community activities. This position supervises the communications coordinator in implementing communications related to the district's strategic plan and promotion of positive school and community relations. This position includes some general office management and special event planning.

Work is performed in an office environment. Required to travel to various school and community sites. Prolonged exposure to video terminal display, as well as exposure to normal office equipment and their chemicals, such as copier, fax machine, telephone, etc. Required to attend after-hours meetings and events, including weekend work as necessary. Required to represent the District on potentially sensitive and controversial matters. Required to occasionally deal with distraught, angry or hostile individuals. Required to travel to various sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages print and digital communications, including preparing, editing and distributing Inside Schools, district publications for school elections, brochures, newsletters, leaflets, handbooks and other publications, and videos as needed. Ensures materials produced supports the district's strategic goals.
- Supervises the communications coordinator in implementing communication strategies and tactics to support the communications program.
- Manages video communications and promotional efforts, which involves story boarding, taping and editing that is aligned to brand standards.
- Assists in preparing, implementing and tracking communication plans, which includes information about district plans, priorities, information and initiatives. Participates in data collection and analysis for communication program effectiveness.
- Gathers and compiles data from district, state and federal guidelines and other resources to create appropriate written and digital communications for stakeholders.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with district staff, administration and community.
- Coordinates appropriate content for the district's website, and monitors school and department websites for accuracy.
- Coordinates district events and recognitions, including Employee of the Year process and retiree event.
- Helps establish and maintain communication with the media and prepare news releases as assigned. Serves as back-up district spokesperson for media inquiries.
- Helps establish and maintain communications with community organizations as assigned. Maintains department databases and contact lists.
- Manages, monitors and provides information for the district's social media platforms, ensuring information is integrated with other communication channels.
- Presents information regarding the district, its programs and services to internal and external groups and organizations, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and experience in English, journalism, communications or related field, and
- Three (3) to five (5) years of public relations or marketing experience, including writing for publication.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills which exhibit openness, warmth and a willingness to pursue story leads and address the concerns of community, families, employees and students.
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form clearly and succinctly according to the Associated Press Stylebook.
- Ability to work under pressure and be entrusted with confidential and sensitive information.
- Knowledge of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the community's citizens.
- Knowledge of school operations and procedures.
- Ability to be an attentive and accurate listener.
- Demonstrated abilities in marketing communication, special events organization and photography.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently with minimal supervision, and work effectively within a team environment.
- Skill in written media, writing news releases/staff newsletter articles and advertising. Ability to perform desktop publishing and proficient knowledge and experience operating a personal computer and Microsoft Office Suite.
