Job Title: Environmental Scientist Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Geologist to oversee various drilling activities, including direct push, hollow stem, and sonic methods. The role involves collecting soil, groundwater, and vapor samples, preparing technical reports, analyzing field data, and assisting with site investigation, data analysis, and report preparation activities. Additionally, the Geologist will coordinate and implement field project work, oversee drilling, monitor environmental media, and manage subcontractors. Responsibilities Oversee various drilling activities (direct push, hollow stem, sonic, etc.) Collect soil, groundwater, and vapor samples Prepare technical reports by coordinating figures, data tables, site descriptions, and other necessary details Analyze field data and project work to ensure effective project completion Assist with site investigation, data analysis, and report preparation activities Assist with site remediation system operations and maintenance activities Coordinate and implement field project work Oversee drilling, monitoring, and sampling of typical environmental media Manage treatment system operations and subcontractors Essential Skills Remediation Soil sampling Report writing Field work Geology Site assessment Groundwater sampling OSHA 40 Environmental compliance Water sampling Drilling Technical writing Data analysis Well monitoring Environmental science Water quality Groundwater analysis Groundwater testing Additional Skills & Qualifications BS in Geology or Environmental Science At least one year of remediation field experience Proficiency in performing various routine field activities, including proper sampling techniques for all environmental media Experience overseeing and directing subcontractors Ability to assist in the preparation of major components of routine deliverables (tables, figures, appendices, etc.) Willingness to support the technical growth of junior staff through direct hands-on interactions Strong report writing skills Valid driver's license and reliable means of transportation Ability and willingness to travel overnight Work Environment This position is open due to an employee relocation. The company operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring office presence at least 3 days a week. The role involves traveling out of state about one week every month, with most projects local to Chicago. Initially, the individual will spend about 70% of their time in the field, gaining experience. The company provides trucks for client sites requiring overnight travel or further job sites, and allows car rentals with expense reimbursement if trucks are unavailable. Typical daily travel involves using personal vehicles with mileage reimbursement. The role requires a 40-hour HAZWOPER certification prior to starting. Long-term opportunities include obtaining professional licensure (e.g., PE, PG) and advancing to project manager roles.
