Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the compliance of ordnance management policies and programs, military weapon systems and logistics, maintenance data systems, and support equipment transactions; manages and supervises the storage, handling, inspection, assembly, and testing maintenance; establish work schedules, modification requests and maintenance logs and equipment while complying with current directives.
  • Utilizes well-defined leadership skills; exercises critical and analytical thinking; applies effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Handle numerous administrative duties while also being able to guide and mentor subordinates.
  • Works with other personnel or groups of personnel to resolve problems.
  • Responsible for mission configuration, working with various civil service work centers with uploads and systems checks as required.
  • Responsible for aircraft loads and ensuring aircraft are properly configured as governed by applicable Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) manuals and Flight Clearances.
  • Ensures the work area is maintained in a neat and orderly manner and that all safety rules and regulations are observed.
  • May work with other groups or personnel to resolve problems.
  • Will instruct and assist in training lower-level employees in proper work methods and performance of their job duties.
  • Performs related duties as assigned including all duties of lower rated technical personnel within their classification.
  • Assist other shops/skills as required.
  • May reassign contract personnel between work centers as needed to support the daily flight schedule requirements.
  • Directs and supervises all personnel engaged in the storage, handling, transporting, inventory, maintenance, issue, and repair of aviation munitions and aviation armament handling/test equipment.
  • Supervises the assembly, loading/downloading of aircraft, and arming/de-arming of all aviation munitions.
  • Evaluate the aviation ordnance function for thoroughness and efficiency and promulgate changes when necessary.
  • Advises the Site Project Manager on technical matters about aviation ordnance.
  • Directs the Explosive Safety program.
  • Supervises the requisitioning, receipt, allocation, and usage of aviation munitions.
  • Supervises the training of aviation ordnance personnel.
  • Administers the Explosive Handling Personnel Qualification and Certification Program for Class V Ammunition and Explosives and acts as the Chairman of the Certification Board.
  • Develops aviation ordnance standing operating procedures and ensures timely submission of all required ordnance reports.
  • Supervises and schedules personnel efficiently and effectively to meet work requirements and to protect against costly duplication of labor.
  • Ensures employees use proper procedures, methods, and practices in the performance of their duties.
  • Conducts shift meetings and briefings as needed and participates in supervisor/management meetings.
  • Provides, supervises, and documents on-the-job training for Ordnance personnel.
  • Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and by company policy.
  • Ensures shop area is clean, orderly, and free from workplace hazards.
  • Provides liaison between the Maintenance Control Supervisor and the work group Leadmen.
  • Performs any other maintenance duties or Supervisory functions that may be identified by senior management as appropriate.
  • Ensures Ordnance personnel act as one homogenous work center.
  • Ensures each ordnance technician is cross-trained to perform ordnance functions on ALL T/M/S.
  • Ensures ordnance technicians perform Validation/Verification procedures by preliminary checklists/ manuals on new ordnance and new procedures.


Knowledge, Skills & Requirements:

  • Must be knowledgeable of Flight Clearances, NATOPS manuals, Stores Loading Manuals and associated checklists, NAVSEA OP 5 OPNAV 16 Series
  • Must have working knowledge of F/A-18 (Series), AV-8B and MH-60 aircraft.
  • Must have experience supervising daily flight operations as well as personnel supporting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Must have experience supervising daily uploading/downloading evolutions and personnel supporting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance

Experience & Education:

  • BA/BS from an accredited college or university in one of the following disciplines: engineering, business, logistics, management, math, sciences, and professional aeronautics with four (4) plus years in the performance and execution of U.S. Navy requirements or AA/AS from an accredited college or university with six (6) plus years in the performance and execution of U.S. Navy requirements or High school graduate or equivalent with eight (8) plus years in the performance and execution of U.S. Navy requirements.
  • Possess an extensive background in the field of Aviation Ordnance with a minimum of 20 years of experience with ten (10) years of the last 20 years in direct aircraft loading, maintenance, and weapons system testing the 20 years of experience in Aviation Ordnance the candidate must have achieved a minimum rank of E7, or civilian/contractor equivalent, and ten (10) years shall have been in a Navy/Marine Corps ordnance supervisory position, which included responsibility for weapons systems reliability, Ordnance Certification program adherence, weapons logistics, ammunition accountability through the Non-Combat Expenditure Allocation Program, and assigning workloads as well as duties for entire shifts.
  • Must have experience supervising daily flight operations as well as personnel supporting scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of management/supervisory experience in a Navy/Marine Corps Aviation Organizational level maintenance activity.
