Heat Transfer and Turbine Cooling Engineer

A Snapshot of your day We are looking for a Heat Transfer Engineer to join our Turbocracker Technology group in Seattle, WA, and work with the rest of the team to advance the product through development and application. Siemens Energy operates a "Better Together" hybrid working model of typically 3 days in-person attendance per week to ensure effective collaboration with colleagues while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. What are your responsibilities
  • Working within Aerodynamics, Mechanical Design and Mechanical Integrity disciplines to collectively derive component life including duty-based lifting.
  • Thermal analysis of turbomachinery components and systems from concept definition through detailed design, focusing first on prototype development and then on future product definition.
  • Analyzing and adapting turbine blade, vane, and casing cooling design for new products and upgrades.
  • Specifying component and turbomachine test requirements.
  • Calibration of thermal models using turbomachine test data
  • Dissemination of information by report and presentation.
Knowledge of following: tool chain integration and other delivery improvement initiatives, producing and maintaining method documents, and testing & validation of internal and commercial code upgrades will also be necessary to be successful in this role. Your Profile Bachelor's degree required, Master of Science in Aeronautical or Mechanical engineering preferred. Thorough understanding of Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer theory and curiosity about personal development in the subject. Knowledge of heat transfer in transonic and supersonic flows is a plus. Technical aptitude in turbomachinery subject areas (aerodynamic, thermodynamics, dynamics, machine design) Good analytical skills and the ability to perform detailed investigations, with focus on accuracy and timescales. Able to critique and validate own results using 1D methods e.g. hand calculations. Knowledge in the application of commercial FEM and/or CFD analysis for fluid flow and heat transfer e.g. ANSYS or ABAQUS. Experience with Siemens NX/Simcenter 3D plus CFD software e.g. StarCCM, CFX or Fluent is an advantage. . Experience in 2D/3D thermal analyses of stationary and rotating turbomachinery components with emphasis on the analysis of expanders and/or turbine hot section is a plus. Knowledge of API design standards for compressors, gas turbines, and expanders is a plus Able to work both independently and in a multidiscipline team with effective communication and interpersonal skills Understanding the basics of investment castings manufacture, materials science, secondary air systems, the origins of stress and creep. Availability to travel domestically or international as required up to 15%. Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, skills, certifications, and other business needs. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications. This product line is positioned to disrupt the chemical reactor market, providing both a major step towards decarbonization as well as a significant improvement in process yield.
