SPEAR is a dedicated team of engineers who work on security hardening across all of Apple’s operating systems. We work in a variety of codebases in all layers of the software stack. We develop challenging and impactful security features that require rigorous test development and execution to land cleanly and successfully. Our work results in major improvements to the security of Apple’s apps and services without compromising the polished user experience over a billion users rely on every day. As a quality assurance engineer in SPEAR, you will test SPEAR’s features to ensure they achieve their security goals while maintaining functionality, stability, and performance requirements. You will work side-by-side with SPEAR software developers during all project phases, collaborating on feature definition, quality plan, and test development. You will gain experience testing software across a wide range of Apple’s software stack. Your work will be key to the SPEAR team’s goal of exceeding partner teams’ expectations for feature quality.DescriptionAs a Quality Assurance Engineer in the SPEAR team, you will be responsible for qualifying a variety of SPEAR-developed features. This will include: * Work with feature teams to understand feature goals, components being modified, and interactions with the rest of the system. Reach out to client teams to understand how they rely on the components the feature affects. * Drive coordination of partner teams to ensure project success. * Develop comprehensive feature test plans to ensure the feature achieves its goals without regressing functionality, performance, power, or stability. * Implement new tests when needed to achieve adequate coverage. * Report on testing status and follow up to ensure regressions are addressed. Minimum Qualifications3+ years of iOS and/or macOS QA experienceExperience driving QA projects and creating test plans that identify deep software bugsExcellent bug reporting skillsAnalytical skills to independently perform first-level triage on test failuresDetail-oriented approach to understanding, documenting, and executing on test requirementsAbility to communicate clearly and effectively about technical topics (verbal and written)Preferred QualificationsBachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experiencePay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $112,900 and $234,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
