The University of Kansas Health System, Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonology and Critical Care, is seeking a dedicated Clinician Investigator to join our team at a prestigious tertiary care teaching hospital with over 170 (136 adult and 34 pediatric) ICU beds. The successful candidate will contribute at least 50% of their time to research through clinical trials, translational research, implementation science research and other acceptable methods as outlined for University faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research and Development:
    • Primary investigator for critical care research for therapies, devices, or pathways
    • Have current funding or concrete pathway for extramural/intramural funds to support research and scholarship activities
    • Contribute to research through clinical trials, translational research, implementation science and other acceptable methods
  2. Medical Care:
    • Provide clinical critical care services in multiple academic center critical care beds
  3. Teaching and Instruction:
    • Instruct and demonstrate appropriate medical and research techniques to medical students, residents, and fellows
    • Participate in Department and Division educational activities
  4. Mission Support:
    • Support the mission of delivering the highest quality of care
    • Fulfill teaching, research, and academic responsibilities

Required Qualifications: 

  • MD/DO or equivalent
  • Satisfactory completion of an Internal Medicine residency, subspecialty fellowship and Critical Care fellowship from an ACGME accredited program, with board certification/board eligibility in Critical Care Medicine
  • Experience as a critical care investigator and clinician
  • Strong commitment to education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Fellowship experience through established Critical Care clinician and investigator
  • Ability to secure research funding
  • Eligible for licensure in Kansas and Missouri

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Board certification/board eligibility in Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine
  • Experience as an established critical care investigator and clinician
  • Proven track record in clinical research, particularly in the field of Critical Care Medicine
