Senior Materials Engineer - structural materials

What you will be doing:
  • Performing failure analysis
  • Engineering and inspection reviews
  • Assisting with mechanical integrity audits
  • Performing fitness-for-service life assessments
  • Conducting risk evaluations
  • Participating in on-site accident and incident investigations of industrial locations
  • Initiating promotional activities
  • Overseeing and performing laboratory testing, as needed
  • Conducting research and development
  • Writing and presenting findings from investigations
  • Providing legal and consulting services, as needed
Experience you will need:
  • At least a bachelor's degree in materials, metallurgical, or mechanical engineering. A master's degree or PhD would be preferred.
  • Registered as a professional engineer
  • 6 to 12 years of experience in establishing mechanical integrity controls, performing failure analysis, life assessments, and incident investigations
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for interactions with technical personnel, government agencies, and managers
  • Experience establishing mechanical integrity and inspection programs
  • Experience working with various structural materials and an understanding of basic failure mechanisms and fracture behavior
  • Familiarity with standard metallurgical lab equipment, polishing practices, optical and scanning electron microscopes, material testing, and inspection techniques
  • Experience working with various metal alloy systems, polymeric materials, and coatings
  • Experience working with industrial equipment including piping, pressure vessels, and rotating and fixed equipment
