Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Financial Leadership:
- Develop and execute the company's financial strategy, ensuring alignment with short- term operational goals and long-term business objectives.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to the Leadership team regarding business expansion, market trends, and capital investment decisions.
- Lead the company's financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes, ensuring these reflect industry seasonality and material costs specific to roofing.
- Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Oversee the accurate preparation of financial statements, ensuring timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations, local/state tax requirements, and applicable financial standards (GAAP/IFRS), including contractor-related financial practices.
- Coordinate external audits and liaise with banks, vendors, and insurance providers, maintaining credibility with lenders and bonding companies required for roofing projects.
- Accounting Department Management
- Oversee AR/AP team and processes, ensuring timely and accurate billing and payments
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors, ensuring favorable terms and timely payments.
- Implement credit policies and manage collections e-orts to optimize cash flow.
- Budgeting, Forecasting, and Analysis:
- Develop and manage the annual budget, with a focus on tracking project-based financial performance (e.g., job costing, profitability of roofing projects).
- Analyze financial data to identify trends in material costs, labor expenses, and overall project profitability, providing actionable insights to improve margin and control costs.
- Monitor financial variances and adjust the forecast based on changes in project timelines, supply chain issues, and other factors that impact roofing operations.
- Cash Flow and Capital Management:
- Manage the company's cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity to meet the demands of roofing contracts, including equipment purchases, material procurement, and payroll.
- Oversee working capital and ensure effective use of credit lines, capital reserves, and vendor financing to manage fluctuating cash flow in a project-based environment.
- Evaluate capital needs for expansion and work with Leadership team to raise capital or secure financing as needed.
- Internal Controls and Risk Management:
- Establish and maintain a system of internal controls tailored to the construction/roofing industry, ensuring accurate job costing, expense tracking, and prevention of fraud.
- Manage risk by overseeing insurance policies (general liability, workers' compensation, ), ensuring adequate coverage for roofing projects and minimizing liability exposure.
- Collaborate with project managers and the operations team to ensure contract terms are financially sound, mitigating risk through proper contract reviews and lien rights protection.
- Leadership and Team Development:
- Lead and develop the finance and accounting team, ensuring they have the skills and resources needed to manage project-based accounting (job costing, payroll, subcontractor payments).
- Foster a collaborative relationship between finance, HR, and operations, ensuring seamless communication on financial and HR matters related to projects, employee management, and project closeout.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, focusing on automating processes, improving accuracy, and enhancing the overall financial and operational health of the company.
- Cost Management and Efficiency:
- Lead e-orts to control overhead costs, optimize purchasing strategies and evaluate subcontractor agreements to ensure financial efficiency.
- Analyze direct and indirect costs associated with roofing projects and identify opportunities to improve profitability through process improvements, resource allocation, and vendor negotiation.
- Ensure that financial systems are equipped to handle the complexity of multiple ongoing roofing projects, with accurate tracking of job-related costs.
- Mergers, Acquisitions, and Corporate Development:
- Identify opportunities for geographic expansion, acquisitions of smaller roofing companies, or service line extensions.
- Lead the financial evaluation, due diligence, and integration e-orts for mergers or acquisitions, ensuring a smooth transition of financial systems and operations.
- Tax Strategy and Compliance:
- Oversee tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Work with tax advisors to minimize tax liabilities, considering deductions and credits available to construction businesses.
- Ensure compliance with contractor tax requirements and stay updated on any industry- specific changes that impact financial reporting.
- Technology and Financial Systems Management:
- Manage and enhance financial systems and software, ensuring they support construction-specific needs like job costing, progress billing, and equipment tracking.
- Implement new technology solutions to improve financial reporting, reduce manual processes, and increase operational efficiency in managing roofing contracts.
- Leverage data analytics to track project performance and provide real-time financial updates to the Leadership team.
- Human Resources Management:
- Oversee the HR department, ensuring compliance with employment laws, safety regulations, and company policies that are critical in the construction and roofing industries.
- Develop and implement HR strategies that align with business objectives, including recruiting, training, and retention of skilled labor.
- Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations, ensuring a positive and compliant workplace culture.
- Oversee benefits administration, workers' compensation claims, and ensure competitive compensation packages to retain top talent in the roofing industry.
- Payroll Management:
- Oversee payroll processing for all employees, ensuring timely and accurate wage payments, compliance with wage laws, and proper classification of employees and subcontractors.
- Manage payroll tax reporting, deductions, and benefits administration, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Implement and oversee job-specific payroll tracking systems to ensure accurate allocation of labor costs to individual roofing projects.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or CPA preferred. MBA is a plus.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, ideally in construction or contracting (roofing experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and WIP/percent-complete accounting methods.
- Experience in managing cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting in a project-based environment.
- Proven track record of leading a finance and HR team and working closely with operations.
- Experience with capital management, risk mitigation, insurance, and payroll.
- Strong leadership and team development skills.
- Proficiency in financial, accounting, and payroll software.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with executive teams, project managers, and HR teams.

- Competitive Annual Salary: $150,000 - $200,000
