This Senior Project Structural Engineer must be a fully competent professional who possesses an extensive and diversified knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices in a broad area of assignments and related fields. The Senior Project Structural Engineer must be proficient in designing structures constructed of structural Steel, reinforced and prestressed concrete, timber and masonry in accordance with current applicable standards and codes with emphasis in the design of low rise buildings. In addition, the Senior Project Structural Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that their delegated projects are completed on time and within the budget provided. The Senior Project Structural Engineer must have excellent communication skills and work well as a team member. In addition, the Senior Project Structural Engineer must possess the following:

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in Structural Engineering, plus 8-12 years’ experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Michigan
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Design experience with the development of contract construction plans, estimates, specifications and bid documents for low rise buildings, sanitary and wastewater structures, and specialty structures for local municipalities, MDOT, and commercial and industrial clients in accordance with applicable agency standards and codes
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with various design methodologies such as ASD, LFD and LRFD
  • Experience with structural engineering programs such as RISA-3D, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, LEAP Consys and Enercalc
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop contract documents for structural engineering projects, including plans, technical specifications, reports, structural cost estimates and other relevant Project types include new structures and rehabilitation of existing steel and concrete structures.
  • Responsible for project development, handle scheduling, creating proposals and budgeting. 
  • Review and approve construction documents such as shop drawings, RFI’s, Change Orders and Equivalent Substitutions
  • Perform plan reviews in accordance with the Michigan Building Code
  • Seal and sign project documents
  • Perform routine and detailed inspections for various types of structures
  • Maintain a good relationship with the client both during the project and upon completion to promote client loyalty and secure future work
