Job Summary
Performs a variety of duties related to moving product from the molding machines to the skid wrap area

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Packing: Safely and efficiently moves product from the molding machine to the box

Representative duties include:

  • Moving product into boxes, ensuring that all parts are packed correctly according to the Mold Detail Analysis Report. There are three main methods of packing:
    • Hand stack - Moving and stacking products from a catch bin into a box
    • Drops - These are free fall parts; the box is changed when the conveyor stops and the box counter alarms
    • Robot - Placing a box over parts that have been organized and stacked by a robot
  • Places all full boxes on skids in the correct configuration according to the Mold Detail Analysis Report
  • Double stacks skids as required by the Mold Detail Analysis Report
  • Shipper boxes must be stretch wrapped before being moved from the machine
  • Identify the product by tagging the skid with the press number
  • Transport full skids to the skid wrapping area by using a pallet jack
  • Assembles boxes as needed, quantity on hand should be minimal as they take up a lot of room
  • Retrieves pallets, boxes, lids and other supplies
  • When applicable follows routing instructions
  • Grinds runners and rejects as required by the molding process. Documents all rejects that have been ground up
To be measured by:
  • Accuracy - How the product is packed
  • Eliminates clutter by minimizing the number of boxes at the press

2. Quality: Responsible for the quality of the product being packed
Representative duties include:
  • Preforms periodic and scheduled quality checks
  • Documents scheduled quality checks on the proper form
  • Notifies the Shift Manager, Team Leader, QCS, or Production Assistant of part defects. Example:
    • Short Shots
    • Flash
    • Part appearance
    • Trimming
  • Monitors and cleans the chutes, conveyors, and drop boxes
  • Performs 100% inspection on specific parts as required. Example:
    • Go-No-Go inspection on some Yards
    • Go-No-Go inspection on all straw holes
  • Periodically verifies component part quantities (parts per bag)
  • Verifies that the boxes being used are in good condition, and that boxes of highest quality are used for the bottom layer of the pallet
  • Follows instructions on routings
  • Packed parts are kept clean by making sure that no more than one coffin box is uncovered at any given time
  • Follows packing stacking configuration found on the Mold Detail Analysis Report

To be measured by:
  • Documented quality checks, to include comments
  • Compliance with the Mold Detail Analysis Report
  • Recalls and Harmar returns associated with part quality

3. Production: Brings production related problems to the attention of Shift Manager

Representative duties include:
  • Monitors assigned machines for shutdowns, caught parts, part defects, etc
  • Notifies others of machine problems by paging over the intercom system or using the tracker system
  • Maintains part-count accuracy in all packed boxes

To be measured by:
  • Excessive down time without notification
  • Product recalled for sorting (Quality issue)
  • Product recalled for re-pack (failure to follow instructions on the Mold Detail Analysis Report or the Routing)
4. Housekeeping: Responsible to keep work area around assigned presses neat, orderly and safe

Representative duties include:
  • Organizes the work area around assigned presses
  • Removes old tickets from boxes and retrieves the fallen ones from the floor
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment by sweeping floor, picking up debris and parts
  • Cleans machines and other equipment (as time permits)
To be measured by:
  • Organization and cleanliness around assigned presses

5. Safety: Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy work environment

Representative duties include:
  • Follows the guidelines for "Manufacturers of Food Packaging" (ASI)
  • Follows all policies, safety regulations, establishing good housekeeping practices
  • Suggests changes that will reduce safety hazards
To be measured by:
  • Number of unsafe acts and unsafe conditions
  • Number of findings reported on monthly ASI/safety inspections related to packing

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous factory experience preferred
  • Good physical dexterity and color discrimination
  • The ability to follow verbal and written instructions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Prolonged (12 hour shift) standing and walking on hard surfaces
  • Bending, crouching, and squatting to lift or lower work loads up to 45 lbs
  • Pushing and pulling workloads
  • Climbing stairs/ladders
  • Frequent reaching above shoulder height
  • Must endure extreme heat in the summer months
