About the OpportunityThe Chief Broadcast Engineer is responsible for leading the engineering broadcast operation including Field Operations units, plus Emergency Services and New Technologies & Planning for the statewide public television network. The Chief Broadcast Engineer provides leadership and direction to a diverse staff of broadcast engineering and technology professionals, including oversight maintenance engineering, transmitter operations and other technical facilities. The Chief Broadcast Engineer oversees the directors responsible for Field Operations, Emergency Services, FCC Compliance, Studio Engineering, and serves as project manager on technical upgrades for all broadcast technology-related installations.
The position is responsible for approximately $7 million of the $26.5 million PBS NC budget and more than $60 million of state assets. PBS NC's Broadcast Division operates more than 60 sites for transmitters, microwave sites, translators, and production facilities throughout North Carolina. The Chief Broadcast Engineer is responsible for compliance with all FCC, FAA insurance, and accounting rules and regulations. This position regularly interfaces with other broadcasters and many state and federal agencies.

About the Team
The PBS North Carolina Technology Division is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the statewide broadcast network in addition to studio production infrastructure, information technology, and facilities.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Skills
Bachelor's degree in related field, with 10+ years of broadcasting or relevant experience, including 5+ years of management experience; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Competencies• Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail and deadlines, as well as expeditiously handle a variety of matters, requests and queries• Ability to establish an independent view, lead decision-making processes and motivate others, especially during complex and challenging situations• Executive-level leadership and interpersonal skills, including with internal and external stakeholders, staff and vendors• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Must be articulate, well organized, self-directed and effective in executing hands-on leadership• Experience managing large projects, teams and budgets• Proficient use of Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills• Significant knowledge and understanding of public media, broadcasting and digital media• Demonstrated skill and success in organizational change, employee development, coaching and cross-team effectiveness, efficiencies and processes• Experience with digital production and broadcast systems, file-based video, RF systems, network security, business systems, data management and online/interactive technologies• Strong understanding of evolving consumer media behaviors and the technology/strategies necessary to support a growing digital presence• Strategic thinker with the ability to understand and express the business impact of emerging technologies and to translate ideas into action
