Overview This position controls and coordinates internal and external generation and wholesale assets to manage resource to load balance within industry criteria, requirements, regulations and compliance measures. This position takes actions to maintain real time operational compliance including compliance with current NERC reliability standards. This position is responsible for economically dispatching assets and works with energy trading to maximize off system transactions. This position directs and controls generation in real time, coordinates unit commitment and provides direction to plant personnel for real time, forward and emergency operations associated with generation dispatch functions within reliability, safety and environmental regulations. This position provides the Reliability Coordinator and Balancing Authority /Transmission Operator with required information and responds to reliability directives in a timely manner. This position performs real time and day ahead load forecasting, data validation and required reporting processes under guidance of senior staff members. Responsibilities •Directs and coordinates real time unit coordination and commitment events. •Executes curtailable contract positions and DSM programs. •Directs controls and coordinates internal and external generation and wholesale assets to utilize resources to meet load demands within operational/industry criteria/requirements/regulations. •Takes actions to maintain real time operational compliance including compliance with current NERC reliability standards as they pertain to generation dispatch, Load Serving Entity and Purchasing Selling Entity functions. •Directs controls and coordinates steam, gas, oil, hydro, reserves, fuel positions and external resources to balance load demand with Bulk Electrical System reliability governing actions and provides direction to plant personnel for real time, forward and emergency operations associated with generation dispatch functions within reliability, safety and environmental regulations. •Economically dispatches and commits generation and wholesale assets to optimize system production costs. •Forecasts retail and wholesale positions to optimize resources to maximize financial contribution to the corporation •Communicates to generation plants, energy marketing/Real Time Traders and various internal managers -generation status, reliability issues, and market conditions. •Forecast hourly load profiles real time, day ahead and forward utilizing neural network, and similar day models as applicable, under guidance of senior staff members. •Communicates resource inadequacy to the Reliability Coordinator and Transmission Operator as it pertains to services provided for balancing. •Communicates to the Reliability Coordinator and Transmission Operator as applicable •Provides internal and external reporting and logging as required by industry standards and internal needs. •Keeps abreast of and maintains industry certifications, standards and requirements. •Actively participates in the generation dispatch training program. •Performs other duties as assigned •Complies with all policies and standards Qualifications Education Requirement Bachelor's Degree in engineering, science, mathematics, business, or an applicable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis Required Experience Basic knowledge and understanding of electrical and mechanical engineering principles. Proven experience in providing excellent direction and communications through various media Preferred Qualifications •Analytical skills required enabling mathematical analysis pertinent to resource coordination and financial decisions. •The ability to manage and analyze risks, innovative thinking and strong project management skills. •Understanding of weather patterns and the ability to analyze weather forecast. •Ability to work rotating shifts coping with minimal change of schedule notice. •The ability to perform job tasks without direct supervision. •Ability to direct and coordinate others and multiple tasks.
