Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $16.63 - Midpoint: $19.95 (Hourly N3)

Normal Work Schedule: Varies; must be available to work evenings and weekends.

Job Summary: The Emergency Medical Services Dispatcher receives and processes requests from a variety of sources to include multiple telephone lines and radio frequencies for emergency and non-emergency assistance under moderate supervision. Dispatches appropriate personnel in an efficient and timely manner. Operates various on-line systems to enter, update and retrieve data. Maintains a variety of logs and files.

Additional Department Summary: Receives and manages requests for emergency and non-emergency medical assistance. Provides instructions as necessary and coordinates dispatch and communications activities to ensure the appropriate EMS response. Maintains contact with emergency personnel in the field. Provides information to responding units regarding location, directions, changes to circumstances, etc. Responds to information requests from responding EMS personnel. Coordinates assistance from other agencies and/or departments as requested, including contacting other agencies for response to specific situations.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Some previous dispatch experience. Knowledge of emergency dispatch procedures. Knowledge of emergency communications principles and practices. Functional understanding of communications equipment, CAD systems, 2-way radios, telephone and recording equipment.

Skills and Knowledge: Excellent organizational and administrative skills. Ability to communicate effectively with EMS staff and health care professionals. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information and the requirement to follow HIPPA regulations at all times.

Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative. Working knowledge of data entry and Microsoft Office. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications: Some previous EMS experience preferred.
