This position will directly support new product introduction and perform secondary support for AvComm and contract manufacturing sites. Prior experience in the field of RF/microwave test equipment or similar high complexity electromechanical assemblies is strongly preferred.Duties & Responsibilities: Primary Role and ResponsibilitiesLead comprehensive Design for Manufacturing/Design for Service activities from initiation through R&D implementation of recommended design changesDevelopment of strategic manufacturing processes in support of new product introductionsDevelopment of manufacturing process capacity modelsParticipate in and/or lead technical teams as requiredDefine, specify, and communicate expectations for quality outcomes through the creation of standardized quality specifications and work instructionsResearch, evaluate, justify, and recommend capital equipment for manufacturing processesEvaluate existing manufacturing processes for product hardware of above average complexity and work with both internal and external 3rd party partners to define, plan, and implement product and process improvementsEvaluate Product Quality data (Annual Failure Rate, Initial Delivery Error, Manufacturing Yield, etc.) to identify opportunities for improved product quality and cost reductionConduct failure analysis activities that identify the failure at the component level, design a data-driven plan to address the failure, and drive implementation of the necessary corrective actionsUse Design of Experiments, 8-D, Kaizen, and other formal failure analysis techniquesAssist in identification and qualification of new mechanical component suppliersEvaluate existing mechanical components (including fabricated metals, plastics, and printed circuit boards) for cost reduction, assurance of supply, and quality improvement opportunitiesThis position may require up to 15% domestic and international travelPre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements: Qualifications for Senior Manufacturing EngineerBS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Material Sciences Engineering5+ years' experience in a technology driven industry; low-volume/high-mix/high complexity product experience preferredDemonstrated ability to influence cross functional teams and external 3rd party partnersExperience driving product and process cost reduction activitiesExperience performing failure analysis of complex systems and componentsProficiency with Creo and/or SolidWorks preferredAbility to prepare and conduct effective presentationsInternal and contract manufacturing support experienceAbility to work independently and demonstrated track record of delivering results in a dynamic technical environmentIf you have what it takes to push boundaries and seize opportunities, apply to join our team today.VIAVI Solutions is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer - minorities/females/veterans/persons with disabilities.
