Job Description
Senior Manufacturing Engineer with the experience and drive to provide leadership in and individual contributions to our product quality, process excellence, and cost reduction activities.
This position will directly support new product introduction and perform secondary support for AvComm and contract manufacturing sites.
Prior experience in the field of RF/microwave test equipment or similar high complexity electromechanical assemblies is strongly preferred.
Primary Role and Responsibilities
Lead comprehensive Design for Manufacturing/Design for Service activities from initiation through R&D implementation of recommended design changes
Development of strategic manufacturing processes in support of new product introductions
Development of manufacturing process capacity models
Participate in and/or lead technical teams as required
Define, specify, and communicate expectations for quality outcomes through the creation of standardized quality specifications and work instructions
Research, evaluate, justify, and recommend capital equipment for manufacturing processes
Evaluate existing manufacturing processes for product hardware of above average complexity and work with both internal and external 3rd party partners to define, plan, and implement product and process improvements Evaluate Product Quality data (Annual Failure Rate, Initial Delivery Error, Manufacturing Yield, etc.) to identify opportunities for improved product quality and cost reduction
Conduct failure analysis activities that identify the failure at the component level, design a data-driven plan to address the failure, and drive implementation of the necessary corrective actions
Use Design of Experiments, 8-D, Kaizen, and other formal failure analysis techniques
Assist in identification and qualification of new mechanical component suppliers
Evaluate existing mechanical components (including fabricated metals, plastics, and printed circuit boards) for cost reduction, assurance of supply, and quality improvement opportunities
This position may require up to 15% domestic and international travel Qualifications for Senior Manufacturing Engineer
BS degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Material Sciences Engineering
5+ years' experience in a technology driven industry; low-volume/high-mix/high complexity product experience preferred
Demonstrated ability to influence cross functional teams and external 3rd party partners
Experience driving product and process cost reduction activities
Experience performing failure analysis of complex systems and components
Proficiency with Creo and/or SolidWorks preferred
Ability to prepare and conduct effective presentations
Internal and contract manufacturing support experience
Ability to work independently and demonstrated track record of delivering results in a dynamic technical environment
