Nourishing Hope, formerly known as Lakeview Pantry, is a dynamic Chicago nonprofit providing food and social services for anyone in need. Founded in 1970, we’re one of the largest and longest operating hunger relief organizations in Chicago. We also provide free, trauma-informed mental health counseling and other social services, such as job and housing assistance. We strive to serve the needs of the whole person — with respect and dignity, always.


Nourishing Hope offers our neighbors nutritious food using a choice-based distribution model and access to life-changing social services including:

  • Monthly food distribution and additional produce pickup through five different food access programs;
  • Home delivery services for older adults, homebound neighbors and neighbors living with disabilities;
  • Social services including case management, mental health counseling, job search support, domestic violence intervention, referrals and public benefits assistance (SNAP, healthcare, government forms) for anyone in need.

Nourishing Hope serves tens of thousands of people each year, providing more than 4 million meals through our programs, in addition to partnerships with other community organizations. This year, Nourishing Hope will provide about 200,000 food and social services to our Chicago neighbors.


Position Summary

Nourishing Hope is looking for a friendly and organized Bilingual Receptionist/Admin Assistant to be the welcoming face and voice of our organization. In this pivotal role, you will greet and assist volunteers, clients, vendors and guests in both English and Spanish, providing them with the direction and information they need. Additionally, the Receptionist/Admin Assistant will support the team through essential coordination and administrative tasks.


Location

This is a full time (Monday- Friday) onsite position reporting out of Nourishing Hope Headquarters, 1716 W. Hubbard Street, Chicago.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Answer, screen, and direct phone calls to the appropriate person; take messages; transfer callers to voicemail as appropriate.
  • Greet all visitors and guests in a friendly and welcoming manner; determine the purpose of each person’s visit and direct them to the appropriate location.
  • Perform building and security procedures that apply to front desk reception including, but not limited to, timely opening and closing of the building and operational readiness.
  • Receive mail, documents, and packages, sort and distribute items or coordinate delivery.
  • Assist with day-to-day office activities including ordering supplies and coordinating with vendors.
  • Support facilities management across all locations.
  • Maintain office protocols (open/close procedures, kitchen rules, conference room practices, etc).
  • Provide administrative and clerical support (such as filing, scanning, copies, mailings, etc).
  • Maintain a safe and tidy reception and communal areas.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years general office experience
  • Experience in a receptionist environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and a positive attitude toward callers, visitors, vendors and staff in all interactions and situations.
  • Close attention to detail and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and Excel), and Google Suite.
  • An understanding of, and belief in, the importance of food security for everyone.



Background Check

Because we are a Medicaid provider all applicants who are offered employment with Nourishing Hope will be subject to a background screening.
