Job Summary:

The Wilson Landing Lead Dock Hand is an entry-level leadership position and serves the marina with its boating, facilities, and educational skills towards dockhands and members through proactivity and leading by example. The Lead Dock Hand will be a trainer and guide to dock hands to achieve established service standards in boat preparation and customer service. To keep a trained eye on and work on the upkeep of facilities in and around the Marina and communicate maintenance issues to the front office in a timely fashion. Member and associate satisfaction in the marina revolves around the boat’s appearance, high attention to detail and cleanliness, and overall boating experience. This role will contribute to the organization as an active business partner responsible for supporting the company’s goals, objectives, mission, and values.

Essential Job Functions:

Lead Dock Hand Duties:

  • Responsible for supervising Dock Hand 1 and 2 positions for seamless boat preparations and launching
  • Responsible for moving private vessels amongst docks
  • Assist in training dock hands in boat prep, side work binder, dock work, activities, and projects
  • Provide management with a daily log of task completions, dock walks, and maintenance requirements
  • Responsible for maintaining the Boat Club fleet inspection and detail logs
  • Manage the life jacket and boat inventory supply closets
  • Record all commissionable transactions to ensure timely and accurate commission reporting for payroll
  • Share knowledge of all programs and activities at Wilson Landing with Dock hands and other associates
  • Ensure exceptional service is provided to all members and guests while meeting the members’ and guests’ needs and requests
  • Train new freshwater boat club members in freshwater training orientations
  • Captain freshwater leisure trips
  • Provide Saltwater Rental boat orientations

Dock Hand 1 Duties:

  • All Dock Hand 2 Duties
  • Perform high-quality boat wash, wash, and wax, detail and skillfully applying cleaning techniques with attention to detail regarding boat presentation
  • Provide excellent boat detail work using basic hand tools, pressure washer, detailing tools such as dual action buffer and rotary polisher
  • Responsible for moving private vessels amongst docks
  • Provide Freshwater Rental boat orientations

Dock Hand 2 Duties:

  • Greets and assists members and to the marina boatyard and dock, and on vessel for departure and returning
  • Provide exceptional service to all members and guests
  • Complete all opening and closing duties as established
  • Maintain the marina, docks and surrounding area in a clean and organized manner
  • Responsible for boat club fleet appearance, outfitting with safety gear and cosmetic and maintenance tasks
  • Regularly restocking life jackets and boat inventory supplies required for the club fleet
  • Execute boat pump-out requests as directed
  • Prepare privately owned boats with ice, water, vessel return wash off, etc. as directed
  • Will secure lines, tie ups, and other, using Wilson Landing knot-tying guidelines
  • Work closely with Forklift Operators to include guiding launches and returns to ensure safe and accurate process
  • Assist with boat launches, boat dockage organization, boat retrievals, tie-ups, storage and boat returns
  • Assist and support special events at the marina as needed
  • Assist in Wilson Landing operations as directed

Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent education required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Dock Hand or Marina operations
  • Knowledge about local waterways
  • Knowledge of surrounding environment including the flora, fauna, and history
  • Strong marine background that includes experience with guests
  • Hospitality and Boating experience
  • Boat Washing and Detailing experience
  • Successful completion of BoatUS boating safety course within 30 days
  • Bright, High-Energy, Go-Getter with excellent self-presentation
  • Ability to provide a high level of service and a memorable experience for our members
  • Must be able to work flexible hours

Physical Requirments:

  • Able to perform necessary cleaning tasks to keep the boats safe and operable
  • Work tasks may be performed both indoors and outdoors. Will encounter variable outdoor weather conditions, including hot, cold, windy, and wet weather
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to reach with arms and hands, bend and stoop
  • May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity
  • Talking and listening occur continuously in the process of communicating with team and members
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception
