QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
- School Social Work (SSW) endorsement
- Master's Degree Social Work
Under the supervision of the building principal and the Director of Student Services, the Social Worker will help both special and general education students resolve personal, emotional and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered to them.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attends to crisis situations (e.g. child abuse, acute, chronic, and severe behavior problems, substance abuse, suicide, death, attendance, runaway, etc.).
- Maintains and respects confidentiality of students and staff.
- Completes the social developmental study for a case study evaluation (i.e. child interview, family interview, adaptive behavior assessment, classroom teach consultation and observation, review of permanent and temporary file, functional assessment, behavior intervention plan.
- Serve as a leader in the school positive behavior system.
- Evaluates and participates in determining student eligibility for special education placement and school social work services.
- Participates in 3-5-year-old screenings.
- Delivers direct and or consultative social work services as indicated on the IEP.
- Delivers direct and or consultative social work services as indicated on the 504 plan.
- Works with and communicates regularly with parents as needed during school hours.
- Serves as an advocate for students.
- Monitors and provides for behavioral interventions for all students.
- Assists teachers with classroom behavior management.
- Assists the team to understand the student, his/her in school and out-of-school behavior, and how the many environments influences the student for purposes of educational planning.
- Assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic, and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators as well as provide individual and group counseling/therapy.
- Completes all required documentation, including, case notes, billing for Medicaid eligible students, and related service logs.
