Your Role Within the Company
The Chemical Plant Maintenance Superintendent will oversee all maintenance processes and functions at a 24/7 continuous chemical manufacturing plant. This includes managing instrumental, electrical, and mechanical systems, both for planned and unplanned maintenance, repairs, installations, and troubleshooting. The role is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all fixed and rotating production equipment, utilities, and site grounds. 4 direct reports @ I&E, 2 Mechanical
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead all maintenance efforts, managing the maintenance team and planner functions while prioritizing the safety, health, environmental, and security standards for employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Develop the skills and knowledge of maintenance technicians to ensure high-quality maintenance work and equipment integrity.
• Oversee maintenance work assignments for both electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring efficient installations and repairs.
• Manage an effective after-hours maintenance on-call system to provide support for site operations.
• Collaborate with all management levels to monitor maintenance performance, make recommendations for improvements, and promote safety across the organization.
• Provide oversight for maintenance planning activities related to mechanical, electrical, and control systems maintenance.
• Ensure the mechanical reliability of the plant, including the maintenance of fixed and rotating equipment, buildings, and site grounds.
• Identify and reduce production losses and excessive maintenance costs, aligning with plant safety, asset capability, quality, and production goals.
• Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs to support continuous 24/7 operations and resolve complex maintenance issues.
• Track and analyze maintenance KPIs, reliability metrics, and causes for deviations to meet performance targets and continuously improve department outcomes.
• Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to mitigate risks and ensure operational safety.
• Work closely with the operations team to manage the maintenance budget, labor costs, and pricing for replacement parts.
• Communicate with third-party vendors and contractors to clarify maintenance scope, obtain quotes, and manage part/material procurement.
• Lead mechanical integrity and quality assurance programs to ensure plant compliance.
• Adhere to all environmental, health, safety, and security standards, including Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
• Uphold Responsible Care® principles by demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and ethical business practices.
The Successful Candidate should bring the following
Requirements:
• Maintenance Supervisor experience in Chemicals/Plastics Manufacturing (Oil and Gas Industry is NOT a good fit)
• Proven leadership experience managing a team with varied skill sets and expertise in chemical / plastics plant maintenance.
• In-depth knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations for PSM plant operations and maintenance services.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot systems and equipment at a chemical manufacturing plant.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Teams.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment diagrams, with a strong understanding of safety regulations.
• Expertise in safe usage of hand and power tools in maintenance tasks.
• Solid understanding of equipment properties, behaviors, and hazards in a chemical manufacturing environment.
• Strong organizational and independent working skills, along with the confidence to lead teams.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or GED equivalent./ Associates and above is a plus
• A minimum of five years of supervisory or leadership experience in chemical plant maintenance, combining technical, managerial, and financial expertise.
• Expertise in developing maintenance plans, scheduling preventative maintenance, and overseeing equipment installations and repairs.
• I&E and mechanical maintenance experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated facilities.
