THIS ROLE:
Under general supervision, the Operations Compliance Technician works as part of Curtin Maritime's Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Department and in conjunction with the Company's Marine
Transportation and Construction teams. This person understands governing body requirements relating to workplace safety & project compliance and ensuring all components are addressed and observed within the scope of a project. This role reports to the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Manager and is primarily responsible for the compliance and administrative functions that are overseen and required by the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental Department on behalf of the company.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Responsibilities
- Assist with the administration of the Company's safety management system and related trainings with oversight and direction of the HSSE Manager.
- Assist with administration of Company compliance with regulatory requirements and customer expectations relative to Health, Safety, Security and Environmental.
- Responsible to the HSSE manager for the administration of Company documents through monitoring management software and shared drives.
- Perform a range of HSSE administrative assignments independently, without close supervision.
- Implement and execute accepted project-specific plans, including accident prevention plans, environmental protection plans, site-specific safety plans, injury and illness prevention plans, etc. as directed by the HSSE Manager.
- Act as On-Site Company HSE Representative for various projects and locations as needed.
- Track, administer, and generate safety and compliance related documents, registrations, credentials, inspections, safe work plans, fire and lifesaving equipment renewals, trainings for vessels, equipment, and personnel with oversight from the HSSE Manager.
- Manage safety and health programs on-site to ensure compliance with established policies, state/federal laws and OSHA regulations and act as the primary project contact for all health and safety and/or regulatory agency requests and inquiries.
- Maintain current knowledge of all company safety policies and applicable federal and state OSHA regulations, EM385-1, as well as USCG standards and regulations.
- Support the operational function of company safety and compliance systems through auditing, corrective actions implementations, and staying informed of relevant industry requirements, researching applicability of regulations, and supporting implementation.
- Participate in Incident Response and Reporting Systems and support incident investigation processes.
- Complete various administrative tasks assigned by the HSSE Manager, HSSE Department, or Project Manager, as requested.
Certifications and Other Requirements
- Minimum five years construction, marine, safety experience, or similar field.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction training courses.
- First Aid/CPR/AED.
- Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card.
- Security Clearance: Must be US citizen and can obtain a federal government security clearance, if later required.
- Required to travel to project sites for extended durations, travel on short notice, and must be comfortable with a rotating work schedule (i.e. 2 weeks on 1 week off).
- Must be organized, detail oriented, able to multi-task, prioritize workloads, and work in a fast- paced environment.
- Be able to communicate effectively; expected to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, personnel, subcontractors, outside agencies, etc.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally while participating in a team environment.
- Practice safe work habits and wear protective safety equipment.
- Must be physically able to safely transit onboard vessels at the dock and underway.
- Must be comfortable working on the water and in changing climates.
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, self-starter, takes initiative, and anticipates the needs of others.
