Compliance Specialist

The Compliance Specialist is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the compliance process and ensuring that all company activities align with federal, state, and local maritime regulations.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance safety management programs across CTC.
- Regularly inspect vessels, terminals, equipment, and facilities to assess compliance with safety standards. Identify potential hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend corrective actions to mitigate safety risks.
- Performs internal management and vessel audits of company processes to support maintaining the TSMS Certification.
- Ensure policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by employees, customers and stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of relevant local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to inland marine safety.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies.
- Assist vessel compliance in maintaining a valid Certificate of Inspection (Subchapter M).
- Compile and maintain safety statistics for internal and external reporting.
- Identify potential risks and hazards associated with marine operations.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies, including hazard assessments, risk mitigation plans, and emergency response procedures.
- Develop and implement vetting procedures to ensure compliance.
- Liaise with vessel operators, crew members, regulatory authorities, third-party organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to promote a culture of safety and compliance.
- Coordinate with internal departments, such as operations, maintenance, and human resources, to implement safety initiatives and address safety-related concerns.
- Oversee compliance with vessel screening processes and manage any related issues.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, including inspections, incidents, training, and audits.
- Ensure proper documentation of policies, procedures, and reports.
- Ensure document control for USCG and TSMS requirements.
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in compliance, safety, or operations within maritime transportation, oil & gas, or other relevant industries.
- Strong knowledge of USCG regulations and industry best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong data analytic skills with demonstrated ability to identify trends and develop actionable takeaways.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and a commitment to staying abreast of trends.
- Ability to travel occasionally.
- Bachelor's degree in maritime studies or equivalent educational/professional background, may be substituted with relevant technical, military or maritime background.
- Certification in vessel auditing and surveying
- Experience in conducting risk assessments.
- Familiarity with Tanker Management and Self-Assessment (TMSA) process.
- Carry, push, pull, or move 10 pounds regularly, or up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Traverse boats, barges, and tows as needed.
- Must pass pre-employment drug test and physical.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
