ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Compliance Monitoring Technician I
- Technical: Conducts general site inspections. Compiles reports for various recipients of sampling and analysis. Interprets reports for various purposes including but not limited to the determination of compliance status. Uses mathematical formulas and spreadsheets for data entry. Attend and complete required seminars and certification courses and accumulate operational time for "C" Industrial Pretreatment License.
- Chemical Analysis: Conducts and interprets basic and complex chemical analysis on environmental samples. Conducts analysis for various quality control / quality assurance measures. Mixes and prepares chemicals and maintain accurate logs and records. Forwards analytical results to proper recipient.
- Sampling/Inspecting: Collects water and commercial/industrial wastewater samples. Collects samples from various locations to be used to establish city and state compliance status. Proper decontamination of equipment. Determines appropriate method of sample collection. Programs auto samplers to include calculations for flow meter adjustments. Follows accurate detailed criteria, which are defined for preservation of various types of samples. Maintains detailed documentation of sample collection methods and conditions. Establishes proof of commercial/industrial compliance status. Conducts site inspections to establish compliance status for commercial/industrial customers.
- On-Site Testing: Technicians are required to travel to various locations. The technician will determine the proper equipment to be used and which analysis to be performed on samples. Equipment may have to be programmed manually on site. He/she calculates and determines proper amounts of water to be purged and/or collected using well depth measurements and data or commercial/industrial flow rate information.
- Customer Service: Communicates with commercial/industrial customer on-site, phone and/or email to educate business owners on reducing over-strength sewage flows. Also includes public relations, involving visits to various industries for meetings regarding compliance issues, sampling and laboratory analysis. Communicates with other Compliance Monitoring Technicians and supervisor concerning commercial/industrial customer compliance with the city ordinances, codes, and state regulations. Communicates with operational staff at the water and wastewater treatment plants regarding compliance with state regulations.
Compliance Monitoring Technician II
- Technical: Develops and maintains strategy for re-sampling and monitoring suspect waste-streams. Interprets and enforces sewer use ordinance, state codes and regulations for commercial/industrial sewer use customers. Conducts site inspections to establish compliance status for commercial/industrial customers. Interprets reports for various purposes including but not limited to the determination of compliance status. Meets with state representatives to ensure program compliance. Analyses, compiles and submits data for surcharge billing. Drafts revisions, when necessary, to the City's ordinance and quality assurance plan. Uses mathematical formulas and spreadsheets for data entry. Attend and complete required seminars and certification courses and accumulate operational time for "B" Industrial Pretreatment License and FOG I Management Certification.
