Position OverviewThe Senior Director of Nursing Informatics at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is responsible for leading, developing, and managing St. Jude's capabilities in nursing information systems and tools and for establishing a nursing informatics structure within the organization. This role liaisons with nursing on the design, development, and implementation of information systems. The individual reports directly to the Chief Medical Information Officer as a member of the Clinical Informatics and Applications leadership team and works very closely with SVP-Chief Nursing Executive and nursing executive team.  The role provides leadership and change management to advance the nursing staff's use of clinical applications and other technology to support nursing workflows.Job Responsibilities:Lead and manage multiple large/critical complex IT areas/teams across departments.Oversee the initial recruitment, support, training, ongoing development and retention of high caliber professionals in nursing informatics. Supervise and mentor management and staff within the IS organization. Monitor, coach, counsel, manage, and review staff performance.Drive exploration, assessment, proposal, and implementation of innovative & differentiating IT capabilities across technology/process to support overall IT strategy and roadmap.Lead and direct the design, build/test, implementation, and support of existing environment and all other nursing informatics applications.Manage scope, schedule, and resources to ensure work is delivered in accordance with business needs and established quality standards while eliminating risks.Direct the development of sourcing and support strategy; provide executive oversight for strategic vendor and partner relationship management.Engage in strategic communication with internal stakeholders (board, executive leadership, cross-functional leadership etc.) and external stake holder networks (emerging technology communities, vendors etc.) to optimally influence organizational outcomes.Establish systems for governance, monitoring, review, and control of processes and functions performed by the department.Direct, manage IT financial planning/budget forecasting for departmental initiatives; monitor the budget against actuals.Look at the pipeline of talent within team as an organizational pool - investing in future skills, spending time on development through feedback and coaching, and challenging high-potential members with different assignments.As a member of senior Clinical IS leadership, Partners broadly with institutional nursing leadership and Clinical Informatics leadership on the prioritization and support of the St. Jude informatics software portfolio.Maintains an awareness and understanding of technological advances, vendor product offerings, and issues.Partners with Information Security, Compliance, and Internal Audit to identify and resolve any risks impacting the clinical technology portfolio.Performs other related duties as assigned in order toto meet the goals of the department and institution.Maintains regular and predictable attendance.Minimum Education and/or Training:Master’s degree in a clinical discipline, business administration, management information systems, healthcare or related field required.Master's degree in business administration, Nursing Informatics or related field preferred.Minimum Experience:12+ years of experience including significant IT management experience across varying team sizes with focus on both achievement of objectives as well as critical skill-building.Demonstrated experience in IT functional strategy development, operational mgmt., stakeholder mgmt., and budget mgmt.Significant experience building and executing multi-year IT strategies; This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
