Summary:
Alabama A&M Research Innovation Science and Engineering Foundation (AAMU RISE) was established to benefit AAMU, its colleges, students, local industry, and government. The program seeks out research and other STEM related opportunities with participating government, defense, and local industry partners. These opportunities will directly benefit AAMU, its students, and our local partners. The Associate Director of AAMU RISE will help facilitate the AAMU-RISE Strategic plan and will be the primary conduit between the AAMU colleges with industry and government partners in northern Alabama and across the nation. Secondly, their role will be to pursue contractual opportunities for the program and when successful, assist in contract oversight, operations, and management functions to ensure performance of deliverables and compliance with all regulations.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Pursue Opportunities & Manage Performance: A key role will be to aggressively pursue government and industry funded research and other opportunities for faculty and students. Manage the response to solicitations, request for proposal for those opportunities. Assist research professors/students in the management of the contracted efforts to ensure contract performance and adherence to requirements.
Management: Provide management of employees and ensure the continued development of a professional and efficient organization; establish effective decision-making processes that will enable AAMU-RISE Foundation to achieve its long- and short-term goals and objectives. Support and motivate the organization's staff.

Do you have a proven leadership of one or more organizations and ability to conduct organizational design.

Do you have demonstrated ability to work with and understand key state, federal, and industry players in the Huntsville area? This includes chamber of commerce, large & small business, NASA, FBI, Army, Missile Defense Agency and others?

Do you have a bachelor's degree in STEM discipline, preferably in ABET accredited engineering program?

Do you have fifteen (15) or more years of demonstrated experience in project/contract management with government, department of defense, and industry? This experience should include the oversight, management, and quality of contract performance. Qualifications must include level III DAWIA Certified in Contracting or Program Management or equivalent. Must have a full understanding of USG contracting within the FAR/DFAR and associated contract types.

- Provide effective and efficient operational management of the AAMU-RISE Foundation enterprise, including ensuring that all services are rendered in the most effective and efficient way.
- Administer the core functions of the AAMU-RISE Foundation, which includes efficient and transparent administration of research contracts and development.
- Support in the oversight of regulatory compliance and financial accountability.
- Drives and supports AAMU-RISE Foundation's effort toward commercialization of intellectual property.
- Reports directly to the AAMU-RISE President/Executive Director on day-to-day activities and progress of the foundation.
- Work and oversees the ongoing efforts to build and maintain relationships with State and Federal funding agencies, State and regional economic development agencies, and a vast array of industry partners. Builds relationships between AAMU and government/industry.
Pursue Opportunities & Manage Performance: A key role will be to aggressively pursue government and industry funded research and other opportunities for faculty and students. - Work directly with the Deans and Faculty in the pursuit of appropriate research or other funded opportunities. Manages the contractual/financial aspects of these opportunities to allow the Faculty/Students to focus on research.
- Formulate and execute comprehensive marketing, branding and development strategies that will ensure consistency throughout the organization and enhance revenue from major donors, foundations, government agencies, and corporations.
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality services while managing current and future growth. This includes proposal development, contract management and oversight of contracts awarded.
Management: Provide management of employees and ensure the continued development of a professional and efficient organization; establish effective decision-making processes that will enable AAMU-RISE Foundation to achieve its long- and short-term goals and objectives. Support and motivate the organization's staff.
- Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration and strengthen internal communications with staff throughout the organization; promote a positive, multicultural work environment that supports consistency throughout the organization's strategy, operational methods, and data collection needs.
- Increase efficiency and consistency throughout the organization by developing and implementing standardized services and programs.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- Required Bachelor's Degree in STEM discipline, preferably in ABET accredited engineering program.
- Preferred Master's degree (MS) or higher, preferably in a STEM discipline.
- 15 or more years of demonstrated experience in project/contract management with government, department of defense, and industry. This experience should include the oversight, management, and quality of contract performance. Qualifications must include level III DAWIA Certified in Contracting or Program Management or equivalent. Must have a full understanding of USG contracting within the FAR/DFAR and associated contract types.
- Proven leadership of one or more organizations and ability to conduct organizational design.
- Must be able to hold a U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance
