Summary of Position:
The Student Event Assistant position at Indiana Wesleyan University plays a pivotal role in maintaining the efficient operation of the education center and creating a successful in-person experience for our international students and guests. This part-time individual will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to students, faculty, and staff, and ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment conducive to learning. Duties include assisting with administrative tasks, activities during in-person residencies, and providing general support as needed.

This role will primarily work two to three Fridays and Saturdays each month with potential hours on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays. Total work per week will not exceed 25 hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet students warmly as they enter the education center and provide assistance and direction as needed
  • Create a friendly and approachable atmosphere to foster a sense of belonging
  • In coordination with the Regional Operations team, prepare and serve coffee and refreshments for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ensure that refreshment areas are well-stocked, clean, and organized
  • Assist in the setup and cleanup of faculty and staff lunch areas. Provide support during lunch periods as soothsaying a smooth and efficient service
  • Assist in the monitoring of classroom attendance, engagement, and activities during and between class sessions ensuring a safe and orderly environment
  • Assist in implementing supportive programming for international undergraduate and graduate students, such as orientations and co-curricular activities
  • Coordinate activities and provide assistance as necessary to enhance the student experience
  • Assist in maintaining accurate attendance records for students and faculty. This may include monitoring attendance during classes and reporting any discrepancies to the appropriate personnel and working with data before or after each residency
  • Contribute to the cleanliness and tidiness of the education center. This includes but is not limited to sweeping, mopping, dusting, and restroom maintenance
  • Provide administrative assistance to education center staff as needed. This may include answering phones, providing building coverage, filing documents, and other clerical tasks

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred
Experience
  • Previous experience in customer service or hospitality preferred
