This position is responsible for general ledger accounting and monthly reconciliations, ensuring that all transactions have been properly accounted for and accurately reflected in the general ledger.

Primary Purpose

This position is responsible for general ledger accounting and monthly reconciliations, ensuring that all transactions have been properly accounted for and accurately reflected in the general ledger. This person is also responsible for accounting reports and reconciliations related to accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, deferrals, expenses, deductions, sales and payroll taxes, compensation, and other payroll functions as they relate to the general ledger.

Major Responsibilities

Monthly general ledger account detail reconciliations and monthly general journal entries, including recurring journal entries. Prepare monthly general ledger analysis and record related journal entries including, but not limited to, monthly compensation accruals and payroll tie-outs, vacation accruals, prepaid expense analysis, intercompany entries, ESOP journal entries, and quarterly corporate expense allocations. Maintain fixed asset records, including all additions, disposals, and gains/losses on disposals. Prepare and record monthly depreciation entries including allocation to all departments. Assist with year-end financial and tax fixed asset reporting. Prepare personal property tax reports. Assist with preparing annual work papers and analyses as needed to support the general ledger and as requested by financial auditors. Maintain employee records in the financial accounting system. Assist with timesheet review and correction for accurate submission. Review, analyze, and check payroll reports for accuracy and record necessary adjustments or corrections through journal entries or other established payroll procedures. Review payroll journal entries and payroll reconciliation between G/L and outside payroll service reports. Review of quarterly payroll reports for accuracy and completeness. Review general ledger coding of invoices relating to employee benefits. Maintain electronic cash checkbooks. Prepare journal entries to record electronic bank deposits, apply cash receipts, and prepare bank account reconciliations. Maintain accounts receivable subsidiaries. Assist with state business registrations for corporate, payroll, and sales tax purposes. Prepare annual business reports and renewals. Assist with miscellaneous requests of the CFO, Controller, and HR Manager. General administration includes paperwork, copying, printing, faxing, and using a computer.

Minimum Requirements

Education

A two-year degree in accounting is required with a minimum of one to three years' experience.

Experience

This position requires experience in data entry, payroll, general accounting principles, knowledge of the general ledger and how it relates to other journals, and project accounting experience is preferred. Multi-company, multi-state sales tax and payroll experience also preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite expected with Excel proficiency required.

Physical Demands of Position

Ability to see, hear, and listen with the use of dexterity in hands for clerical duties within the job.

Working Environment

Standard office environment: frequent use of personal computer, facsimile/copy machines, and other office equipment.
