Description
The Safety Manager plays a critical role in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs, policies, and procedures within the company. Reporting directly to the President, this position is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, conducting safety audits, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization. The Safety Manager will lead efforts to identify potential hazards, implement corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the entire driver onboarding process, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. Manage the Drug and Alcohol program and FMCSA clearinghouse compliance for drivers and shop personnel. Monitor driver citations and ensure timely resolution. Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Create and maintain a comprehensive company safety manual. Identify potential safety hazards and risks in the workplace, including driver behavior, vehicle maintenance, and environmental factors. Conduct risk assessments and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks. Conduct or oversee safety training programs for drivers and other employees to promote safe practices and compliance with safety regulations. Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Create and maintain an accident/incident/claim management system to track and resolve safety issues. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including those set by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and CHP. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to assess compliance and ensure readiness for BIT inspections. Analyze safety data, including accident reports, near misses, and driver performance metrics, to identify trends and areas for improvement. Monitor driver behavior and performance using tools such as Samsara and set company goals and metrics for driver rating. Develop and implement emergency response plans to address accidents, natural disasters, or other emergencies. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety inspections, training, incidents, and compliance activities. Create and display safety visuals to promote an accident-free environment. Collaborate with drivers, dispatchers, and other staff to promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to safety protocols. Coordinate with insurance providers and legal counsel on risk management strategies and claims management. Develop plans to reduce WorkComp X-Mod and identify insurance savings strategies. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management Knowledge of OSHA regulations and standards Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
