Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES This is advanced and specialized accounting technician work in an agency with a diversified and complex accounting program.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS An employee in this class independently performs a variety of advanced budget and accounting activities that involve specialized funds of considerable size and complexity and federal, state, and local funding in one of the county's largest departments. Employees may verify, code, balance, maintain and report on the records relating to a county department's fiscal and business operations. Work performed requires the use of calculators, personal computers, CRT terminals and typewriters. Employees may be responsible for all phases of budget preparation for a portion of the agency's budget, requiring different reporting requirements, different fiscal years, accounting procedures, etc. Work requires the exercise of discretionary judgment to ensure transactions are applied according to established accounting and budget procedures and statutory requirements. Employees work with minimal supervision and work is reviewed for results and for conformance to policy. Work in this class is distinguished from the II level by the scope and complexity of the work assignments and the broader authority for independent action.
Examples of Duties
DUTIES
Provide training and support to Business Operations and other department staff in the State's NC FAST and NC TRACKS systems Must have the ability to work with all levels of county government as well as state agencies Trouble shoot financials in NC FAST and the ability to complete the 1571 report Serve as a liaison between the Social Services Accounting team and Budget/Finance departments Perform other accounting functions as assigned Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree in Accounting or other field of study related to the nature of the work performed
Two-year degree in accounting and two years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
Graduation from high school or GED and four years of accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable experience.

Physical Demands
Work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, driving an automobile, or use of a PCs or other VDTs to accomplish work objectives. No specific physical demands required. Mental demands and normal stress regarding achieving work deadlines are present
Working Conditions
Working environment involves normal, everyday discomforts or unpleasantness. Work area has adequate light, heat, and ventilation and the environment is organized and stable. Work place and work activities present no significant safety or health hazards to employee.
May Require Driving This position may require driving for this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business such as but not limited to attending conferences, meetings, or any other county related functions. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver's license and that the driving record is compatible with the county's driving criteria. If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County's vehicle use policy.
