Location: Heritage Elementary QUALIFICATIONS: Kentucky licensure as Speech Language Pathologist; American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); (Certification by the Kentucky Department of Education preferred)
REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Special Education
SUPERVISES: N/A (Directly)
JOB GOAL: To diagnose, plan and implement intervention strategies in order to enhance a student's academic progress and communication skill.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluate students referred by teachers, parents, principal, special programs supervisor or county school psychologist, and determine if a communication disorder exists and intervention is warranted. Screen incoming kindergarten students and determine need for further evaluation prior to beginning of school year. Arrange for hearing screenings of students enrolled in K-3 grades. Make proper medical referrals for students who fail hearing screenings and complete necessary work. Plan and implement intervention strategies as indicated on IEP. Schedule, conduct or attend ARC meetings with parents and appropriate personnel, according to guidelines specified in Special Education Policies and Procedures. Provide documentation and analysis of student's IEP progress. Maintain appropriate due process folders according to guidelines. Re-evaluate students enrolled in Speech-Language therapy and determine need for continuation of services. Is available as a resource teacher for communication and language strategies. Complete paperwork and record-keeping per Medicaid guidelines for direct speech language therapy services. Perform other duties as assigned by principal, the Director of Special Education or the Director of Student Programs and Services.
