The organization is led by a board that is committed to the foundation being an anti-racist and anti-sexist institution, and excellence in supporting organizational culture and sound management practices The Staff Accountant will be someone who will partner well with others in the organization. They are also looking for a Staff Accountant who enthusiastically seeks to be an engaged high performer and colleague in both the "What" and "How" of the organization's work This role will be in office on a hybrid schedule in their offices located in the Upper West Side The firm offers a competitive salary and great benefits package including medical benefits, a 401k with match, and vacation time. Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant will include:
Monitor cash balances to ensure adequately funded, and coordinate with the Directors of Accounting and Finance Reporting, to arrange cash transfers as necessary. Reconcile monthly bank statements, including the monthly reconciliation and preparation of journal entries for the organization's short-term investment cash activity. Review the coding of all invoices for payment in the accounting software system and verify supporting documents for all invoices, agreements and/or memos for grant payments, purchases and expense items, and journal entries Oversee the maintenance of invoices, voucher records, journal entries, and other data as required to support and verify all receipts and disbursements. Prepare and coordinate weekly cash/checks deposit by uploading via Chase online system. Prepare journal entries and monthly allocation accounting transactions. In coordination with Accounting colleagues, generate and distribute various monthly reports from the accounting system. Conduct monthly reconciliations of grant payments and appropriations. Additional responsibilities will be assigned by the Director of Accounting as needed. Qualifications of the Staff Accountant will include:
B.S./B.A. in Accounting or related field with four years accounting experience, or Master's degree in a relevant field with two years of accounting experience. Nonprofit experience is a plus. Experienced with an ERP/Accounting system such as Intaact Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills Experience with an expense/invoicing system such as Nexonia is a plus An engaged contributor who has effective communication skills Attentive to dynamics of power, inclusion, and equity, particularly with respect to race and gender; consistent professionalism and accountability; intentional collaboration and co-creation; high standards for communication and respect; responsible stewardship; and thoughtful and effective management Most importantly: someone who is interested in making a change for the world.
