Plant Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for overseeing the daily financial operations of the manufacturing plants. These duties include working with the plant leadership team to ensure accurate recording of inventory transactions and researching plant variances. This position will also be tasked with maintaining detailed costs and providing cost analysis which support operations and sales.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reconciles inventory transactions, reviews labor expenses for labor reclassifications, completes accruals of plant liabilities, and analyzes plant statements monthly.
Determines, in conjunction with plant management, targeted goals for performance measures of quality, productivity, delivery, cycle time, inventory optimization and profitability.
Creates manufacturing budgets, including direct labor, direct overhead, and fixed overhead rates.
Sets and maintains standard cost of inventory items.
Creates and maintains dealer and retail pricing across marine division in multiple media types.
Analyzes manufacturing bill of materials to include direct labor, overhead, and fixed cost to determine pricing structures.
Prepares financial reports for executive management and plant managers.
Participates in monthly closing process to ensure accuracy and completeness of monthly plant financial statements.
Assists with year-end physical inventory process.
Reviews work order variances.
Performs cross-departmental special projects to improve process efficiency and performance.
Analyzes all plant capital spending requests to ensure accurate financial analysis ad appropriate expenditure of funds.
ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in accounting or related field
Preferred Degree: Master's Degree in accounting
Years of experience: Minimum 5 years progressive experience in cost accounting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to think creatively
Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and any applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
Demonstrated ability in Excel and other office applications; willingness to learn new tools and business systems.
Strong verbal and written skills, with the ability to effectively present information to all levels of the organization
Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships and collaborate with business partners throughout the organization.
Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks, delivering quality results in a timely manner.
Ability to think holistically and keep an eye on the details.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to travel 50% of the time between our corporate office and plant locations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly performs computer work and sits.
Occasionally walks and stands.
Seldom/never lifts up to 50lbs.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT
:
Performs duties within scope of general company policies, procedures, and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures, and practices.
