Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for a
TRIO Student Support Services Coordinator position at the Yakima Campus . This is a full-time, in person, grant-funded, exempt professional position, plus a full state benefits package. This is a grant funded position and is contingent upon available funding.
TRIO SSS is an academic support program that serves approximately 200 low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities. TRIO Student Support Services is part of the Student Services Division.
Reporting to the Director of TRIO Student Support Services. The
TRIO SSS Coordinator
will monitor and assist program participants in planning and achieving their educational goals. The
TRIO SSS Coordinator
coordinates program activities and events, maintains online services (TRIO Toolkit) and social media connections, connects students with campus support resources, and reports on student progress. Essential Tasks
Essential Functions
Coordinate activities within college departments and outside organizations. Assist program participants with educational plans, transfer processes, FAFSA applications, etc. Follows the TRIO SSS budget under the direction of the Director of Student Support Services and in partnership with the Budget Director and the Business Office. Develop and implement outreach and recruiting strategies for perspective SSS students. Document services and track student activities in SSS database. Monitor student's academic progress and financial aid status. Laison with Math/English faculty and academic support centers to ensure access to effective academic support. Required to travel with other TRIO Staff for student enrichment activities and professional development. Maintain TRIO SSS social media sites and keep them current. Develop/facilitate college success modules and workshops. Provide training, orientations, exit interviews and presentations for the program. Comply with federal and college requirements regarding program accountability procedures. Assist the Director and Dean in completion of all reports as requires and as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: JOB PROFILE:
Serve as primary contact with Yakima program participants; provide information regarding program policies and activities; perform a variety of public relations functions.
Compose correspondence, printed materials, and/or new releases related to program policies, procedures, and operations; edit materials for accuracy, appearance, readability, and style.
Schedule and monitor activities to ensure consistency with program goals; address questions and concerns that arise in relation to SSS/DSS issues.
Maintain up-to-date, accurate files on participants. Gather data and maintain accurate, pertinent data on SSS activities and student performance.
Schedule appointments and assist students with application processes.
Liaison with faculty in all departments to help students meet their specific academic needs.
Prepare agendas and help conduct workshops, orientations, and informational meetings for program participants. Make presentations related to the program informing the campus community of program services.
Generate reports, forms, and correspondence as needed. Prepare, process, verify, and document time sheets. Prepare and process requisitions for equipment, printing, supplies, etc.
Make available information regarding program services to students, staff, faculty, and the community. Confer with other campus departments and outside agencies, as needed.
Use technology to maximize the efforts of program students and staff. Implement student achievement and online tracking software, or structures that ensure accurate collection of data, efficient transfer of data between student/files and reports as well as data upload into SSS Annual Progress Reports.
Maintain an inventory of equipment, textbooks, and instructional materials. Monitor student check-out and return of items.
Implement, monitor, and support changes as needed to achieve goals and objectives of the SSS/DSS programs.
Attend TRIO events when needed by SSS.
Attend meetings as required.
Perform other Duties as Assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in a counseling, education, or related social services field.
One year of experience in higher education, or secondary education, OR related social services field. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in counseling, education, or related social services field. Understanding of barriers facing low-income, first-generation college students. Excellent interpersonal and written communicatios. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Prior experience with a federal TRIO program or other similar program. Strong leadership, team building, and group facilitation skills.
