Job DetailsJob LocationSonora Optometry - Sonora , CASalary Range$23.00 - $32.00 HourlyDescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:The Optical Technician is responsible for assisting patients with selecting and fitting eyewear, performing preliminary eye exams, and maintaining accurate patient records. This role requires strong customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with optometrists and provide technical support in optical services.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:(Essential functions include but are not limited to the following)The Optical Technician will assist patients with frame selection, ensuring proper fit and comfort based on the prescription and lifestyle needs. They will educate patients on various lens options, coatings, and help adjust and repair eyeglasses as needed. Additionally, the technician will measure optical parameters such as pupillary distance and collaborate with the optometrists to perform pre-examination tests like visual acuity checks, auto-refraction, and tonometry.The role also involves handling sales and providing excellent customer service, explaining lens options, insurance benefits, and warranty details. The technician will process optical sales transactions, manage payments, and file insurance claims. Ensuring the optical inventory is well-stocked and displays are maintained, as well as preparing work orders for the optical lab to manufacture lenses, are key responsibilities.Administrative duties include maintaining accurate patient records in compliance with HIPAA, scheduling appointments, and assisting with patient insurance claims. Additionally, the technician will maintain optical equipment and ensure the office is clean and organized.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Qualifications:Education and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) plus years of experience in optical services. Preferred Qualifications:Direct Experience working as an Optician or Optometry TechnicianEMR experienceBLS CertificationRequirements: Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation and be free of any felony convictions.Must have a vehicle, valid California driver's license (or ability to obtain with 30 days of hire), vehicle insurance. Must be insurable.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires walking, standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time; climbing stepstools, etc., stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching; pushing, pulling and lifting up to 30 pounds; raising objects overhead; manual dexterity for operation of computer, phones and small office machines; hearing, talking and good verbal and written communication skills; repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers.INDIAN PREFERANCE:Preference in filling vacancies will be given to qualified Native American or Alaskan Native Applicants, in accordance with the Indian preference Act (Title 25, U.S. Code Section 472 and 473) and Public Law 93-638, provided the applicant has submitted appropriate verification of Indian preference for employment.
