General Summary of Position Histocompatibility Specialist Washington, DC MedStar Georgetown Medical Center, Inc. d/b/a MedStar Georgetown University Hospital MedStar Georgetown Medical Center, Inc. d/b/a MedStar Georgetown University Hospital has an opening for a Histocompatibility Specialist to join our team! Job Duties: Perform high complexity histocompatibility testing for transplantation, including molecular HLA typing, HLA antibody identification, and HLA crossmatch testing. Perform, document, and report high complexity histocompatibility testing. Confirm abnormal results and specimen discrepancies. Perform and document quality control procedures for FDA modified and laboratory developed tests. Perform quality system audits. Work collectively with co-workers to ensure that the laboratory meets and exceeds all safety requirements. Assist with the management of patient histocompatibility information in local and national databases, including UNOS, NKR, NMDP. Verify each patient's histocompatibility information throughout the transplant process, including initial candidacy evaluation, ongoing monitoring pre-transplant, risk assessment at the time of transplant, and post-transplant immunologic monitoring. Maintain equipment logs and perform routine calibration and preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment in accordance with established guidelines. Participate in reagent inventory management in the assigned area. Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field of study. Position requires four (4) years of experience as a Medical Technologist, or a related occupation. Position also requires certification in American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI). Position requires one (1) year of experience in clinical laboratory disciplines.
