MV Transportation is seeking a
Fleet Maintenance Special Projects Manager
who will be responsible for overseeing and managing key fleet maintenance projects. The role involves spearheading new initiatives, optimizing processes, managing resources, and ensuring fleet operations align with company standards and compliance requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with the Fleet Maintenance leadership team to execute strategic initiatives that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain high vehicle uptime. THIS POSITION REQUIRES THE CANDIDATE RESIDE IN CALIFORNIA. Key Responsibilities: Project Management:
Lead special projects related to fleet maintenance, including vehicle acquisition, lifecycle management, and fleet technology integration. Oversee project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time and within scope. Coordinate cross-functional teams to implement projects, including maintenance, operations, procurement, and external vendors.
Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities to improve fleet maintenance processes, reduce downtime, and enhance operational efficiency. Analyze fleet maintenance data to provide insights and recommendations for optimizing preventive maintenance and repair schedules. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, such as implementing new tools, technologies, and workflows for enhanced fleet management.
Fleet Compliance & Safety:
Ensure fleet operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and EPA standards. Collaborate with the safety and compliance teams to implement best practices in fleet safety and vehicle inspections. Lead initiatives to maintain high standards of fleet safety, including the development of vehicle inspection protocols and maintenance checklists.
Vendor and Resource Management:
Manage relationships with key vendors and suppliers for fleet maintenance parts, services, and equipment. Negotiate contracts and service-level agreements to ensure cost-effective fleet maintenance solutions. Ensure availability of appropriate resources, including personnel, tools, and equipment to execute special projects.
Budget and Cost Control:
Monitor project budgets and expenditures to ensure cost-effective use of resources. Develop cost-saving strategies related to fleet maintenance, such as extending the life of fleet assets or reducing repair costs. Work with finance teams to create financial forecasts and reports related to fleet projects and expenditures.
Technology Implementation:
Manage the integration of new fleet maintenance technologies, such as telematics, GPS tracking, and fleet management software. Ensure proper training of staff on new technologies and systems to improve fleet performance and maintenance practices.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
Lead and mentor teams involved in special projects, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability. Work closely with regional and local fleet managers to ensure alignment of special projects with day-to-day fleet operations.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Transportation, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Experience:
5+ years of experience in fleet maintenance, project management, or transportation services. Proven experience managing large-scale fleet or maintenance projects. Experience with fleet management systems, vehicle maintenance scheduling, and compliance with transportation regulations.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Solid understanding of fleet maintenance practices and regulatory compliance (DOT, OSHA, EPA). Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and make informed decisions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, and fleet management software (e.g., FleetFocus, AssetWorks, or similar).
